| Love Has No Boundaries Chapter 1 |

| It was Toni's first day in that school, in a very foreign country. Afraid and alone, she got up earlier than she had to. She didn't get to sleep peacefully the night before. Toni just arrived in Sligo from the Philippines the night before and already she wanted to go back home. Her school had sent her as a foreign exchange student. She was so thrilled to be chosen at first but when the time for her departure crept nearer and nearer, she didn't want to go. She wanted to decline but it was way too late. She half-dragged herself into the shower. The water was icy cold that she let out a small and sudden scream. Luckily, almost everyone was awake in the dormitory she was staying at. Getting dressed was such a struggle for her. "I can never get used to this." She thought. She'll be staying for a few months to study about life there in Ireland as a student. Then she was to deliver a speech in front of the whole school and answer some questions when she comes back. She felt so uneasy about everything. She ate her breakfast distractedly, thinking about her friends and her family. She sat all alone in a small table at the corner of the dining room, while the rest of the girls were happily chatting with their friends. They were talking about their plans for the evening, what they were up to last night, who is going out with who, and all sorts of girl talk. It would be hard for Toni to make friends because she's a very shy and reserved girl. She left the dormitory and arrived at school just in time. She went to the principal's office after asking for directions. There she met the other foreign exchange students, who happened to be staying at the same dormitory she was at. Sandra is from Sweden. She had nice blue eyes and beautiful brown hair with blonde highlights on them. Helen and Patricia were both from Holland. Helen had green eyes and blonde shoulder length hair. Patricia's eyes were blue and she had lovely brown hair. Alessia, from Canada, has dark brown hair and eyes. They were all very nice and friendly. Patricia and Helen were both in Toni's class, whilst Alessia and Sandra had the same ones and they belong to the higher grade. They parted their ways and Patricia, Helen and Toni walked to class together, introducing themselves to each other. As the 3 of them approached the room, Patricia made a soft knock on the door. The teacher had been expecting them. They were introduced to the class and were asked to say something about themselves and the country they're from. They were told to choose their own seats and Toni immediately took the one at the very back at the corner. Helen and Patricia took the 2 other seats left. The teacher was rambling on by then, leaving Toni alone in her thoughts. She decided to pay attention after a few minutes of pondering about absolutely nothing. The teacher was discussing about world history, which was one of Toni's favorite subjects. She couldn't help but to raise her hand to answer the questions the teacher were firing at them, which made the class look at her and listen for the whole time, which was to her surprise and much to the irritation of one girl at the class named Magda. She was the top student and did not like being rivaled upon. Which of course, was oblivious to Toni that Magda thinks she is the most annoying person she has ever come across with. After all, she wasn't directly doing anything to Magda, and there was one more reason why she was getting angry at Toni? Patricia, Helen, Alessia, Sandra and Toni had agreed to meet at the gates after dismissal so they could do a little sightseeing together. It was already lunch time by then, and Toni was walking around the campus, checking it out and writing something down for her speech when she gets back. She smiled to herself. It looks like life here wasn't so bad after all. But then again? "Hey!" someone shouted. Toni looked around. It was Magda with her friends. "Hi!" Toni said, smiling warmly, extending her hand. "I'm Toni." "Yeah, I know that. And I don't care!" Magda said, flipping her hair over her shoulder. Her blue eyes flashed with anger. "Who do you think you are? You Asian garbage! You're just an exchange student and I can get rid of you, just with a snap of my fingers!" she said, giving Toni a dirty look. "I can make your life so miserable you'd wish you've never set foot here." Shocked, Toni could do nothing but to keep quiet, fighting the urge to say something in return. "Great! Terrific! And she's a racist!" Toni thought to herself. "Well?! Answer me! Who do you think you are?!" Magda shouted and pushed Toni so hard that she fell on her hands and knees. She picked up her things and started to walk away. She couldn't bare the humiliation. Everyone was watching them already. Not contented with what she already did, Magda and her friends followed her, calling her names and constantly pushing her that she nearly tripped several times. She ran as fast as she could, hot tears flowing down her cheeks, blurring her vision. She just kept running and running and running and then bang! She ran into a pair of strong yet gentle arms, steadying her to keep her from falling. "Are you okay? Did I hurt you or anything? Hey, why are you crying?" asked the guy. He had the most softest and sweetest voice she had ever heard. She even thought that he was an angel that came to save her. Toni's vision was still blurred from the tears. She was about to speak but she heard Magda and her friends still taunting her. She pushed him away and ran, not caring that she left some of her books and stuff on the floor. She just had to get out of there. |
