Learning to Love Again
Chapter 7
Alena walked along with Kian and Bryan on eitherside of her. While Shane was on the otherside of Kian. Bryan was incessantly talking to her. Asking her all sorts of questions and telling her about the sights of Dublin. Kian and Shane seemed a bit quieter. Thank-god, she thought.
She had sorta tuned out when she heard her name being called and then a nudge. “Excuse me?” She said turning to face Kian who had nudged her.
“I asked you something.... you didn’t answer me as you had drifted off.. so I nudged you..sorry...” Kian said sheepishly and blushed.
“Oh...sorry... what were you asking?”
“Oh I just wanted to ask you why you moved from New Zealand to Ireland is all..”
“Um... I’m sorry but I’d rather not talk about it...” a pained statement appeared on her face before she could control it and Kian could see there was sorrow and grief in her eyes. She quickly forced a smile on her face hoping that nobody had noticed. “It’s not really all that interesting. Oh can we go to that store over there? That looks interesting” she continued and turned to Bryan, avoiding Kian’s probing eyes, gesturing to a store not far away. She had to change the topic. Hopefully Kian bought her flimsy excuse. She couldn’t tell them what happened. “So Bryan, how did you get into Westlife...? she began and a delighted Bryan started going on about the auditions, his doubts etc.

Kian watched Alena chatting to Bryan as they went into the store. He knew she was avoiding him. For some reason she didn’t want to talk about New Zealand. He waited outside the store thinking what to do.
“Hey Ki, you’re quite today. What’s up?” asked Shane, concerned. Kian sighed. Shane was his best friend. He told him everything, but he wasn’t sure if he could tell this to Shane. It was hard to open up sometimes.
“Come on Ki, I know something’s up. You can tell me anything you know, I’m your best friend, that’s what best friends are for.”
“Ok, ok” he took a deep breath. “I think I’m in love.... “ he trailed off. He had finally admitted it. Not only to Shane, but to himself as well.
“Woah... that’s a big step. You sure? Who are you in love with? I hope it isn’t that redhead you went out with last week. No offense, Ki, but that wasn’t one of your best choices.”
“Yes I’m sure and no it isn’t Tina.’
“Well then. Who is it? Come on, you’re keeping me in suspense here.”
Taking a deep breath Kian asked, still unwilling to tell Shane who it was, “Do you believe in love at first sight?”
“Um... sort of. But I think that for somebody to fall in love with someone, shouldn’t they get to know them first? Wait....Oh my god....I know who you’re in love with! It’s Alena isn’t it??” Shane had a triumphant grin on his face.
“Yeah...” sighed Kian. “But she seems to be getting along well with Bryan.”
“Wow. I never knew you to fall in love with anyone, let alone fall in love with somebody you had just met about 3 hours ago!”
“Well I’d actually seen her before today. I saw her at the airport when we were there. I just didn’t get the chance to talk to her is all..”
“Well so what are you doing to do about it?”
“I don’t know... as I said before, Bry and her seem to get along...”
“No way. You can see that she didn’t really want to come today when Bry asked her. She made up excuses. So maybe she isn’t all too keen on Bry after all.”
“You think so..?”
“Positive. I think you should ask her out. Get there before Bry does.”
“I’ll think about it...”
“Hey think anymore and you’ll be losing her to Bry”
Kian heaved another sigh.
“Hey Shane, Kian. Whatcha doing still standing there for? We’re moving on!” called Bryan as he walked away with a grim Alena in tow.
“See, she doesn’t seem all too happy in Bry’s company does she?” whispered Shane to Kian. “I say go for it”
“Shh!” hissed Kian as Alena turned and looked at them inquisitively.
