This I Promise You
Chapter 13
Make It All Right
Toni peeped into the small glass part of the kitchen door. Patricia was sitting there, as predicted. She still hadn’t talked to Toni for the whole evening. They were still at Bryan and Helen’s house, hanging out and catching up on things.
‘Hey… what are you looking at in there hmm?’ Mark whispered, startling her. ‘Argh!   I hate it when you sneak up on me like that!’ Toni whispered back. ‘Nah… I know you love it! Otherwise, your life would be so utterly boring.’ He murmured, slipping his arms around her waist. ‘Yeah right!’ she softly retorted. ‘Come on, admit it!’ Mark whispered. ‘Patricia is in there…’ Toni said, changing the subject. ‘Oh, well… go in there and make everything all right. I’m sure she’ll understand. I know she can’t and she won’t stay angry with you forever.’ said Mark. ‘I can’t… what if she ignores me? What if she starts screaming and throw things at me?’ “Honestly Toni, do you think that Patricia is capable of doing that? Your imagination has runaway with you again. Sometimes, I could swear that you were a kid trapped in a grown-up’s body. Now go in there and explain yourself.’ Mark said, giving her a little push toward the door. Toni inhaled deeply, and pushed open the swinging door. As it opened, Patricia looked up, along with Helen who was sitting beside her.
‘Hey there.’ Toni said softly. Helen gestured for her to have a seat. ‘Oh! I think the phone is ringing. I’ll just go and get it.’ Helen said as Toni took her seat across Patricia. A hush fell upon both of them, a very uncomfortable one that is. ‘Umm… Pat, I… I wanted to apologize for having been unable to attend your wedding. It was very wrong of me to do so and…’ ‘Toni! It was nothing, believe me, I totally understand why you couldn’t come. You were still heart broken at that time and I know it’s pretty depressing to be at the wedding when you’ve just broken up with your boyfriend, especially if he’s going to be there as well.’ ‘I’m just so glad that you understand. I would’ve given anything to be there. I heard it was totally lovely!’ ‘Oh Toni, it was the best! Kian prepared almost everything for it and told me all I had to worry about was the gown and the bridesmaid’s dresses. It was like a fairytale! If I could re-create the whole thing for you to see it, I wouldn’t think twice!’ ‘Aww… well, there’s always the video cam right? Anyway, how are the two of you so far?’ Toni asked, happy that things were okay once again. ‘It can’t get any better. Toni… I’m… well, don’t tell anyone yet, coz no one knows. Not even Kian. I want to tell him on the night of our upcoming anniversary. I’m pregnant!’ Patricia whispered. Toni looked at her, totally surprised. ‘I can’t believe this! It’s so wonderful! Oh man! I’m so excited here!’ Toni exclaimed. ‘Well, we’ll just have to think of a way to keep you quiet then.’ Patricia said, playfully reaching for a roll of packaging tape.
