When I'm With You
Chapter 3

Nicky knew he was already awake but he couldn’t open his eyes. They felt too heavy and he felt that if he moved anything it would add to the intense pain he was feeling. His body was aching all over, and his head felt like a hammer was pounding on it. He could hear the beeping of machines and people were talking, some were crying. He wanted to scream for them to shut up, but all he could do was whisper for them to be quiet. The sounds they were making weren’t really helping him at all. Nicky suddenly wished he didn’t do so, because he heard cries of joy and everyone was talking to him, all in a very loud way. He slowly opened his eyes, a blur of light and other colors almost blinding him. Thank goodness someone leaned over and blocked the light from his eyes. The image was a blur, and slowly it became crystal clear. It was Georgina. She had been crying, and she still was. “I’m so sorry.” she whispered. He reached out for her hand to tell her it was okay. At first, he was busy contemplating with himself whether to pretend he had amnesia so he could just get her out of his life. He knew it was no use and it would be far too silly. Georgina cried harder, whispering how sorry she was over and over. Even if it felt like hell physically and emotionally, Nicky pulled her close to him. Maybe he was given another chance in life so that he and Georgina could work things out. He could remember what happened to him, although he didn’t actually see it. A car had hit him on his right side, sending him flying across the pavement. He hit his head on a hard metal surface, probably another car, but he wasn’t sure. He fell and rolled on the ground, hitting his head again on the road. He was sure no one could have survived that without major head injuries. He was totally glad he could remember everything. It was clearly a miracle of God. He made a silent prayer, thanking Him for saving his life. What happened to him was far too extreme for someone to survive such an accident. Maybe it wasn’t really just his time yet.
Georgina looked at him, her face stained with tears. With the back of his hand, Nicky wiped away her tears. "Shh… stop crying G.” he whispered. Everything was such a strain for him. He struggled to breathe as he finished his sentence. He turned his head, pain shooting all throughout his body. Everyone was there. His parents, his brother, sister, and the other Westlife lads were present. Louis, Anton and Ronan were there as well. He managed a weak smile to all of them. “Hi!” he whispered. His mother broke down, feeling so relieved that Nicky was going to be okay.
He looked at Georgina once more. Nicky knew what she was thinking. “What do you say G? Want to give it one more try?” he whispered, wincing as pain kicked into his system once more. Georgina smiled. “Sure, why not?” she smiled at him. He pulled her close, kissing her lightly on the lips.
Georgina pulled away, not letting go of his hand as she took a seat at Nicky’s bedside. He closed his eyes. It was unfair, and he knew it. He saw it in Georgina’s eyes. Both of them didn’t want to be in their relationship anymore, but both of them didn’t want to waste the things that they had, or what was left of it that is. He felt a sharp pain in his heart. The kind of pain you feel when you’re heart is broken. The kind of pain where you can’t breathe and you can’t think straight. How weird it is really, to be in a relationship but you’re feeling heartbroken. The pain stayed in his heart as he felt tears roll down his eyes and his cheeks. Nicky felt that the pain would never ever leave his heart. He didn’t know how long he could stand being in this masquerade he was playing with Georgina.
