We Were Two
Chapter 19
“That’s it!”, Sara said and sounded very irritated. “You can’t keep
changing channels on the TV or on the radio just cos Westlife are
on! Has it ever occured to you that I might wanna hear them?”
Shocked I looked at her and when I saw her face expression I
quickly turned the TV back to MTV. I know from experience that
it’s not a good idea to upset Sara more than necessary…
I looked at the TV… no erase that… I stared at the TV where
Westlife were just being interviewed on ‘MTV News’. This was the
first time I’d actually seen Bryan and the others, properly, since
that day I left Australia. I had talked to Kian on the phone quite a
few times, though, but that was it. “You totally love him…”
“What? What did you just say?”, I said and tore my eyes away
from the TV to look at my friend.
“Oh c’mon, it’s so obvious. It wouldn’t have been more obvious if it
was written on your forehead!” I thought a few seconds about what
she said and was about to say something when she continued,
“And look at Bryan”, she pointed towards the TV, “have you ever
seen him this quiet? The guy looks completely lost… and you
know, you are the only one who can help him find the right way
again…” I didn’t answer, I got up from the floor where we were
sitting and looked out the window. It was a beautiful autumn
afternoon and the leaves on the trees were shifting in red and yellow.
‘Wonder what it’s like in Dublin at the moment?’, I thought
to myself… or at least so I thought.
“See, you’re even talking about Dublin!”, Sara said and got up next
to me. Yeah, I was, actually I’d thought a lot about Dublin lately. “But why?”
“Jeez, do I need to spell it out for you? You and Bryan have this
special bond and you belong together!” I felt something on my right
arm and saw that Sara was poking me with the receiver.
“Call him, Helle”, she said in a low voice, “just… call him… I can’t
stand seeing you like this. Don’t you see? This whole thing is
tearing you apart.” She wiped a tear away from my face and gave
me the receiver. I smiled at her and started dialling the number.
“That’s a Swedish number… Who are you calling, Helle?” I smiled at her again,
“You’ll see Sara… just wait and see…”
