We Were Two
Chapter 6
“I can’t believe you actually saw ‘Titanic’ six times in the
cinema!”,   Bryan and I were sitting in my couch and he
was totally shocked by what   I just told him, “and now
you’ve just watched it again. How many times   have you
seen that movie in total?” “God, I don’t know… I think I lost count at 25 or
something” I started   laughing when I saw that that
statement almost made him spit his coke out.
“25 times!? I mean sure, it’s a great film and I love it, but
25 times! That’s like more than 72 hours! 72 hours of
just watching the same film over and  over and over and over and over…”
“Stop it!”, I said and started messing up his hair. His hair
was really his  sore spot, and the fact that I messed it up
started a little wrestling match   between the two of us.
Luckily for me the phone rang after a few minutes   and I
had to get up to answer.  He hated to lose and of course
I  would’ve  won the wrestling match and that meant I’d
had to spend the  rest of the  evening with a 6ft
sourpuss. I actually thanked my mum for  calling right on time!
I hung up the phone and went over to the kitchen
window. It was a   beautiful evening, the stars were
all out and it was a full moon. The past four days had
been the best of my life. Four days… I couldn’t
believe only four days had passed since our first
kiss.  And it had been four days of total happiness.
He picked me up  every afternoon after work and
we’d go out for dinner with the  others or just spend
time only  the two of us at my place. We didn’t  mind
what we did as long as we  were together.
I was so preoccupied with my own thoughts that I didn’t
even  notice  Bryan coming in to the kitchen. My
daydreams became  reality when he  put his arms
around my waist and kissed my neck.
“What were you thinking  about, sweetie?”, he
whispered, and  continued holding me close.
“Nothing special… Just how incredibly lucky I am to have
met  someone  like you.” He turned me around, so that
we now were face  to face. His hand moved up to my
cheek and he removed a strand  of hair from my face.
“I’m the lucky one, believe me!”, he softly stroke my
cheek and  leaned  forward and softly kissed my
forehead, my eyes, my nose  but just as he  was about to
kiss my lips something outside the  window caught his attention…
“Oh my God!!”, the sound of his voice made me spin
around and  look  out the window. When I saw what had
made Bryan all excited a huge smile spread on my face.
“That was not a day too soon. It’s about time those two
understood  that they’re made for each other.” Of course
we were  talking about Rhiannon and Mark, who at this
very moment were  kissing, like there  was no tomorrow,
on the other side of the street.  They had probably  been
out for a walk with Nic and Shane, cos they stood a few
metres away looking at the new couple and their  eyes were filled with delight.
Bryan and me went back to the living-room and I sat
beside him on  the  couch. He put his arm around me
and I leaned my head against  his  shoulder. I loved to sit
like that, it made me feel safe, like no-one  in the  world
could ever hurt me. Maybe they couldn’t, maybe I  could just hurt  myself…
“It’s getting late, I should probably go back to the
hotel…”, he said  this as his fingers softly played with
my hair. I sat up straight and looked him  in the eyes.
“You don’t have to, you can stay here if  you like… I
mean, if  you want to…” His soft smile said it all and I
leaned forward to kiss him…
“72 hours!”He certainly knew how to destroy a romantic
moment.  He  pulled away and was now splitting his side laughing.
“I knew you’d never let me forget that one!”, I said and
pretended  to be  hurt. Obviously it worked, cos the
laughter stopped and he  apologized.  My looking-hurt
plot continued and he now looked  very lost and  worried.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to make you sad… I just… I’m
really  sorry…”. That was too much for me to handle and
I couldn’t keep a   straight face anymore. This time I was
the one laughing like never  before.
“That was just cruel!”, he whined and by the look on his
face I knew it  was time for another one of  our now
traditional ‘chase-around-the- kitchen-table’. I got up as
fast as I could, still laughing, but he caught me   after just
a few meters… My laughter stopped, just as sudden as
it had  started, when I saw the look in his eyes. They
were filled with trust, love   and promises. He took my
hand and slowly led me to my bedroom…
