You'll Never Stand Alone
Chapter 2

“Do you wanna talk about it?”
“No, there’s nothing to tell. I’m fine, really…” Becky was at work,
where she had spent most of her time lately, trying to keep her
mind off things. But it didn’t work, ‘cause Rachel kept asking her if
everything was all right or if she could do something to help. And
even though Becky did all she could to change the subject, Rachel
always seemed to find a way to get back to the ‘what’s wrong with
Rebecca issue’. Well, in the end Becky’s negative answers paid off
and Rachel stopped asking questions considering her friend’s well- being.
“You know what you need?” Becky shook her head and Rachel
continued, “you need to get out. And since Robert won’t be back
from his business trip until Sunday evening I say, you and I go out
for a drink tonight and just share a bit of gossip, you know the
regular girl-talk. What do you say?”
Becky actually hadn’t been out for six months and if a young man
hadn’t walked by just in time that particular evening, that evening
could’ve become a woman’s worst nightmare. After that ‘incident’
she didn’t leave the house for two weeks, but eventually her brother
convinced her that it wouldn’t get any better if she stayed at home.
So she did as he said and now, half a year afterwards, she could
almost walk to work alone without constantly being afraid of
somebody following her. But still she wasn’t sure if she could
actually go out at night…
But what if it was already decided that she would never be happy?
Then she might as well go out for a drink, right? She might even
enjoy herself… Just as long as Rach didn’t leave her alone. But
what if she did? What would happen then? Becky had all these
questions running through her head and she could see that Rachel
was waiting for an answer, so she said:
“I… I don’t know… I have some things to do… I’ve already made
plans to clean my oven and not to mention all the dirt behind my
fridge, jeez I really have to get rid of that…” the second she said it
she wanted to take it back. What kind of a lame excuse was that?
And the look on Rach’s face told her she was thinking the exact same thing.
“C’mon, clean your oven? You really need to get out! So it’s settled
then. We’ll meet outside ‘The Swan’ at 8pm. No, by the way, I
think I’ll come and pick you up, cos otherwise I have the feeling
you won’t be there.” she said with a laugh, took her handbag and left.
‘Yeah, what the hell…’, Becky thought to herself, ‘Rach will be with
me the whole time, nothing will happen as long as there’s two of us.’
