The Apparition
The piece of artwork that I chose for this era was the original image found on the Tilma that was the sign the Virgin of Guadalupe sent for the bishop.  I also included another interesting piece that goes with the artwork on the Tilma which shows the stars in the Tilma.  I came across these two interesting pieces of art while doing my research on the Virgin of Guadalupe.

What I see in the art is a picture of the Virgin of Guadalupe.  She is praying and has a glowing light around her that almost looks as if she is coming out of a pathway of light.  There is a child below her that almost looks as if it is holding her up.  This actual image is the one found on the Tilma that Juan Diego showed to the bishop as his sign from the Virgin of Guadalupe. The picture was imprinted on a natural fiber from the maguey cactus experts say that it should have disintegrated after twenty years.  Although it is still fresh after more that 400 years.  The Tilma itself is two pieces of coarse cloth made from natural fiber from the maguey cactus of about 1.70 per 1.05 meters, joined together in the center by a seam of thread made of the same material.

This artwork is about the Mother of all Children.  I believe that this Artwork resembles a sign to us that there is more out there.  This artwork definitely plays an important part in the Catholic Religion.

What led me to choose this artwork was that I was curious to see what the actual image looked like after doing my research.  I think this specific piece of artwork is very interesting I find it amazing that this image appeared on this Tilma.  Because I find this so amazing I happened to come across another study of this image on the Tilma which was also very interesting.  Studies showed that there were stars in the image of the Virgin of Guadalupe the main stars of the winter constellations at the time of the Apparition of Guadalupe can be can be seen on the Virgin's mantle.    The Boreal Crown is found above the Virgin's head, the Virgo is on her chest. Leo on her womb, precisely above the sign of Nahui Ollin, with his main star Régulo, the small king. Gemini, the twins is found in the region of the knees and Orion is located where the Angel is.  Another amazing fact I came across was that the paint used on the Tilma was studied by Khun, the German paint expert, and he concluded if there was paint used it was not water paint, nor oil paint, not any kind of mineral, vegetal or animal known paint.  The image also does not have the usual brush strokes of a painting.

What I would like to know about this work is how does something just appear on a piece of cloth?  What other studies have been done on this piece of art?  Also what does it mean by the child looking as if it is holding up the Virgin of Guadalupe?
