Cloning, Should it be Allowed?

Cloning is a hot topic these days, it was only a matter of days after the sheep was cloned, that the government banned all further research on this project. Even our churches are condeming this process because, "We are not to play god". The question is, are we? Well as usual, I don't agree with the majority of the people, and the majority of those in the church, even though I'm a pretty religious guy.

My first point is this, all knowledge and wisdom is given to us from God. A question that everyone must ask themselves is this; Is the knowledge itself evil, or are the people that use it evil? I personally think that knowledge in itself is neither good or evil, but the actions that result from this knowledge is good or evil.

Thanks to our ever popular mindset of think the worst first, and doom and gloom for all, we automatically reject new knowledge without even evaluating the uses and benefits that it could provide. Let me ask you this, if toothpicks were first invented during WWII by the Nazis for the sole purpose of torture by placing them under people's fingernails, would they have been banned? Something tells me that they probably would have been. Our job as a society is not to suppress knowledge, but to find it and use it for our advantage of providing for our needs.

Look at the wonderful benefits of such knowledge in genetics that cloning could provide. The blind in the womb, would be able to see, the deaf would be able to hear, the disabled could walk. Think of it this way, if a woman was to have a baby, and found out that her baby would have only one eye, or one ear, or one leg, and through the process of genetics, these disabilities could be prevented, would the person do it? I would in an instance. What about the blind child in his twenties that finds out that his parents could have prevented his blindness, but that they opposed the genetic manipulation. How do you think he would feel? If he could do it over, do you think he would like to see? Don't get me wrong, these disabled people are wonderful, and they should be treated with love and respect the same as everyone else, but I'm sure if you would take a poll, 99% or more of these people would like to see.

To address the church's position of playing god, let me tell you, creation is making something out of nothing, this is in no way creation, but using the blessed knowledge that God himself has provided for our benefit.

As with all knowledge, there are ways of using it for evil, paper clips could be deadly weapons in the right hands! I think that people too often jump to the wrong conclusions about anything new. I guess an argument could be made that since most people think the worst first, that maybe that is what it will be used for and thus should be banned, but I don't think that is the issue, or is it? Anybody with a speck of decency should first determine the benefits that could be reaped from the new information, and instruct the populous of how to use it in a productive manner, before their twisted minds get other ideas. If I hit somebody over the head with a large Bible, would you ban Bibles? I'm sure they would try, but they would make sure that occult books would still be published.

I guess that in the end, this view won't make any difference since it isn't "normal". Well, I for one hope that I will never be considered normal, since all most people concentrate on is the negative of everything.

In closing, the wisdom that needs to be learned is, look and listen first, then THINK, then act in that order.
