"Struck but Faith is Strong"
A day like any other day came,
promising something different.
To my and other people surprise,
this day would leave us never
the same as before in a big way.
I watched tv in horror watching,
my place of birth NYC attacked.
Couldn't bring myself to fully,
grasp the whole concept happening.
A plane crashes into one twin tower,
then another does the same again.
To my dismay the impact showed,
the top floors instantly on fire.
Oh My God! I cried, "The People";
my body froze and my heart shook.
Seconds turned to minutes fast,
how are the people escaping this?
The media frenzy, people running
in the streets for dear life.
To say that shock was the norm,
would be a great understatement!
My friends, oh no my cousin too,
how will they get out the building?
All sorts of emotions flooded me,
my breath got shorter and shorter.
Peeled to the tv tube's every word,
looking for an explanation for this.
Why, how could any group be so cruel,
what vengence is this on US soil?
As questions and fear set in my mind,
I saw the first building fall down.
Tears just rolled down my face,
staring at the tv like its not real.
Someone snap a finger and this is
all a big horrifying dream only.
Firefighters running away from the
building let me know the second one
was coming down very quickly.
I immediately left the room,
went to the other room and prayed.
I prayed so hard that I started to
sweat and nothing but tears streamed.
No sooner as I was finished I saw,
the second building come right down.
A big dust cloud filled the screen,
all I could think of was were all the
people underneath the building safe.
My ex was on the phone calling family,
friends of those we knew in the WTC.
A dark hole seemed to swallow me,
not able to handle some were missing.
I said to myself don't worry but its,
hard to do that when you love them.
My ex was just as distraught as me,
3 friends were missing and thousands
now perished in the two buildings.
More than my heart could take now,
I prayed oh please help them God.
The news was on all stations,
the Pentagon and the plane crashes.
Hoping some good news would come,
however, none was coming into view.
Not able to believe people were,
innocently killed by terrorists.
Hours went by still waiting for,
a sign or word our family and
friends were okay was killing us.
Night-time fell and finally,
a word on the phone 2 were safe.
What about the others I thought,
the next day brought more pain.
Another friend was found; sigh,
my cousins too were alright.
Now my heart went out to the
families of those who died.
Immediately I sought to help,
try to find out how and where.
Praying others all over will
do the same for those injured.
This is now two days later,
prayers and fervent concern
poured out from us to everyone.
I only hope that this will be,
a powerful message we must unite
against terrorism and the fight
for human life's sacredness.
May all those who read this know,
though the US was struck we all
must lean on God and display a
faith that is totally unshaken!
We must take threats even the ones
remotely trivial as a potential
threat to others we love always.
May this catastrophe go unpunished
and detered from happening again.
God protect us and keep us safe,
please never forget Sept. 11th.
