I insulted my sister today,
Because I'm half white.
Her thick black hair shone like a raven's back,
And her dark Indian eyes pierced the air between us.
I insulted my brother today,
Because I was born in America.
His blonde hair glistened like gold wheat in the sun,
And his light European eyes cut into my soul from a distance.
I insulted my mother today,
Because I was raised in the South.
Her curly red hair flowed down her back like a scarlet cloud,
And her northern chestnut eyes burned through my heart.
I insulted my father today,
because I did not marry a rich man.
His thin brown hair lay straight like a perfect picture of grace,
And his majestic blue eyes severed the breath from me.
I am an insult to this world of family,
Because I am a dark-complected, light green-eyed,
Reddish blonde-haired, average southern woman.
