The Cootees - "Let's Play House" (TN1062)

I knew that Mike Herrera and Tom Wisniewski from MxPx were in this band with Jiles and Dale (both former 90 Pound Wuss members, Dale also played in Slick Shoes and plays in Fanmail now), so I thought that this band could be nice.

I was right : a very good album with punk rock summer tunes about girls, beach parties and "how to write a song". Just sing along ! Mike sings most of the songs, but Jiles and Dale (now in Slick Shoes) sing as well, and the four of them all sing backing vocals. (I've always liked bgv's, so you can guess why I'm so enthousiastic). I'm always surprised at the lyrics when I hear a T&N album (because you never know if they'll be totally focused on ministry, totally not focused on minstry or something in between) and this one is no exception : this T&N album was made completely for fun (I think) and phrases like "we don't wear Nikes" and "hey baby wanna go to the movies" simply won't leave your head. There's also these two songs that fit together : first there's "Beach Party", then there's "Now The Beach Sucks". I Like it !

One of the other things that makes this album so great is that there's this song about Coke in stead of beer or alcohol. This makes it even more appealing to me, because I don't drink alcohol : Coke Is What I Need ! More Cool Phrases : "I'm in a punk band, when I have breakfast, I eat punk bread". Just a few simple words but they're so cool (and funny).

If you like punk rock, you'll like this. If you like MxPx, you won't stop listening ! It looks like Mike wrote a lot of fun songs about (face it) quite superficial things, and it turned out really great!
