Fandango
Each face intrudes obscenely
Wrapped around a fish-eye globe
Mirrors of haters
What will they think?
How will they react?
Smug pursed mouths
Tsk tsk tsking
As they preen for their careful day.

Maybe we try something different this time?
How about you on top in a bolero?
Oh no.
No, no, no, no.
What would great-grandpa say?
I know grandma would slap my face.
But I’m not sure what great-grandpa would say.

Out comes the good book
Droning incantations
Purge the evil
Squeeze it ‘til it pops
What are they thinking?
On top goes what goes on top
As it has always been
As it must always be

Aunt Betty buttons her top button
Hiding the babies
Save the babies first
Then run for the life boats
Don’t break the mirror though
Seven years of bad luck

He slips his hand under Aunt Betty’s blouse
She doesn’t complain
No one can point their finger
As long as the top button stays buttoned
The children are our future
Turn on the big screen for the children
Turn up the volume
The children are our future

Are you getting sufficient nutrients?
When the big car zooms angrily past me
and the driver gives me the finger
how much better does he feel?
I can’t remember,
is it vitamin A you can get too much of?
Or was that vitamin E?

Fish eyes don’t blink
Haters don’t blink
ergo fish must be haters
If you look away, the fish will think you’re weak
and will swarm you
Aunt Betty will think you’re weak
She flaunts her wealth
She’s a wealth-flaunter.

Hard little beady eyes
Poor Aunt Betty
