wrapped in plastic.
nicely eviscerated
where we don’t have to watch.
Nature fell to our hand
when we found that we didn’t have to worry
about rain
or cold.
Even heat was conquered.
in the tidy world we live in now.
Savages worshipped the trees and the beasts
studied the wind and the marshes
studied the waters and the migrations
eked out a living
by slipping into the spaces
that were unoccupied.
We don’t have to slip into anything.
If we want room, we make it.
We bulldozed the ignorant savages
and the trees and the beasts
and the sky and the wind
and the waters and the migrations.
Ask for nothing.
Take what you want.
We are free from the shackles
of understanding this earth.
Freedom.
We wanted it.
We got it.
