Sweet Mystery: Oded Fehr

Israeli actor Oded Fehr is rising to stardom slowly but surely. His role as the courageous, dashing Medjai chieftain Ardeth Bay in the action-adventure movie The Mummy (1999) has won him legions of adoring female fans. Director Stephen Sommers almost killed off his character in The Mummy, but fortunately he was so impressed by Oded's smouldering screen appeal that he had the script rewritten to give Ardeth Bay a chance to ride again in the sequel, The Mummy Returns (2001).

Dozens of fan sites with names like "Oded Fehr: The Beautiful One", "Oded Fehr Appreciation Site" and "Oded Fehr's Swoon Room" popped up all over the Internet like mushrooms after rain following that first Mummy movie, even though his was just a minor role then. Truly astonishing for an actor who's only been in three major movies. Besides his role as Ardeth Bay in the two Mummy movies, he played the suave Italian gigolo Antoine Laconte in the Disney production Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo.

Even Deuce Bigalow actor Rob Schneider noticed Oded's appeal when the two worked together: "Women go gaga over him! He's got this Omar Sharif vibe: tall, dark and handsome with a mysterious quality."

Profile

Name: Oded Fehr
Birthdate:
23rd November, 1970
Birthplace:
Tel Aviv, Israel
Interesting fact: Only 2 months after graduating from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in London, Oded was cast as Ardeth Bay in the 1999 remake of The Mummy.

Oded was born in the year of the Metal Dog. He probably makes a great buddy, as Dog men are known for being loyal, devoted and affectionate to his pals. "(Oded) is kind, sweet and punctual," notes a friend.

Male Metal Dogs like Oded are clever and determined. The earth element gives him the confidence, strength and perseverance to marry his idealism with action. Most Dog men are very outspoken about the multitude of injustices and tragedies that befall mankind, but seldom do anything about it. To Oded, however, action is just as important as mere words. During a charity premier of The Mummy Returns for the Kids Cancer Connection in Universal Studios, he was the only star who stayed back to sign autographs and take pictures with the fans after the screening. He is also making good use of his growing popularity in his mission to help stricken children and their families cope with cancer.

Oded originally helped his father with the family business, but found that it was not for him. Instead, he decided to go to Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in London to study acting. Fortunately for him, he received lots of support from his parents, who taught him that one should always do what one loves in life. "I don't think I would have gone for it had I not had that support," Oded confides. Said like a true Dog man; as he fears rejection, needs lots of reassurance and care and greatly values the opinions of those he loves.
