My Favorite Family Fun things to do
Jacksonville Zoological Gardens, 8605 Zoo Parkway, Northside, Jacksonville 32218, (904) 757-4463 - Please consider becoming a member. You save a ton of money and can go all year free (after paying member's dues). This is not your grandparent's zoo - this is state of the art wildlife enrichment. The environments are awesome and inspiring and it's a wonderful calm, relaxing time to spend with your family. There's even a really great playground in the kids' area so they can run around like little animals themselves! LOL
My Favorite Restaurants (Not pagan related, just my personal faves)
(In alphabetical order of category)
Barbeque
(The Original) Bono's, 4907 Beach Boulevard, Southside, Jacksonville 32207, (904) 398-4248 - Dare we say it? Yes, the BEST Barbeque in the world! Maybe it's the way it's cooked or maybe it's the mustard sauce, but who cares? The food is incredible and the prices excellent.
Chicken Wings
TOOG's, 751 Stockton Street, Riverside, Jacksonville 32204, (904) 388-8494 - One of the best secrets of Jacksonville. TOOG's is a take-out only place, housed in a former Farm Store. You can't miss it, it's painted purple! Their chicken wings are the BEST that I have ever had in my life. We are hot sauce lovers, but get the mild because it's spicy enough for us! LOL They have a very extensive menu. My kids always get the cheeseburgers with everything - fresh cooked on a grill, this is not your average fast food. The prices are excellent and the owner/cook is an exceptional man. Why go anywhere else to get wings?
Chinese
New China, 5110 Normandy Boulevard, Westside, Jacksonville 32205, (904) 783-4147 - Excellent take out and the kids LOVE their Pu-pu platter!
East Buffet, 5086 Normandy Boulevard, Westside, Jacksonville 32205, (904) 378-9968 - All you can eat buffet, with a Mongolian BBQ and a desert bar. They have fresh seafood on the bar and the best egg-drop soup ever (according to my husband and kids!). The prices are fantastic, the wait staff is efficient and polite - this is one of the BEST bargains in town!
Cuban
Havana-Jax Cafe', 2578 Atlantic Boulevard, St. Nicholas, Jacksonville, (904) 399-0609 - I love Cuban food and believe me, Havana-Jax is the best. You can't get better, unless you go to Cuba. I'm a huge fan of his papa rellenos and the empanadas. My kids love the plantains. My husband loves everything, including the coffee. *wink* But the absolute best is the traditional Cuban Sandwich. They are made fresh and grilled to order - flattened, crusty and moist. I'm drooling just thinking about it. The restaurant is so clean you can eat off the floors. Seriously. You can't get any better than this.
Fried Chicken
Normandy Beach Road Chicken, 5804 Normandy Boulevard, Westside, Jacksonville 32205, (904)786-2500 - Want fried chicken and fixings just like dear old mom used to make? OK, my mom never fried chicken (LOL) but if she did, this is even better! The Normandy store has gone almost completely buffet - no complaints from us! My kids love the fried okra and the cream peas - don't forget the tapioca pudding! I love their fried chicken livers and chicken & dumplings. This is Southern food at it's best. Oh my, I'm drooling now...
Italian
Venezia's, 1871 Wells Road, Orange Park 32073, (904) 278-1989 - A bit high in price, but worth every penny. The food is better than homemade! We dream about their Tiramisu!
Mexican
El Potro's, 7200 Normandy Boulevard, Westside, Jacksonville 32205. (904) 378-9822 - Everything is fresh and delicious and made to order.
Pizza
The Pizza Palace, 1526 King Street, Riverside, Jacksonville 32204, (904) 384-8722 - They make the BEST calzones ever! Absolutely incredible.
Salad
Sweet Tomatoes, 1115 Mary Susan Dr, Regency, Jacksonville 32246, (904) 722-9889 - Do you like fresh salad, soup and pasta? If you do, then this place is for you. Affordable, family friendly, and fantastic food. Vegetarian friendly too!
My Favorite Used Book Store (Not pagan related, just my personal faves)
Hudson Books, 4625 Lenox Avenue, Murray Hill, Jacksonville, 32205 (904) 384-3020 - They've got more books crammed into their store than you can ever imagine! If you go, plan on being there a while because it's a lot of fun to explore. Their prices are great and they have the best kids section around.
My Favorite Movie Theatre (Not pagan related, just my personal faves)
AMC Orange Park 24, 1910 Wells Road, Orange Park 32073, (904) 264-3888 - I'll admit it. The best movie theater in Jacksonville is located south of us in Orange Park. I do not like AMC Regency because it's dirty, plain and simple. The AMC Orange Park is always clean, the ushers and concession stand workers always helpful and polite - even when busy. It is worth the drive to know that we will have an enjoyable time. The only thing it's lacking is that big, beautiful 5-pointed star that is out front of AMC Regency. LOL
My Favorite Flea Market (Not pagan related, just my personal faves)
Ramona Flea Market, Ramona Boulevard, Westside, Jacksonville, (904) 786-1153, Saturday & Sunday 8 to 5 - This is a hard category. My family and I love going to flea markets. Ramona is our fave because not only are they close to home, they offer a good selection of inside and outside booths. There is a 50¢ admission for adults, but it's worth it to us. Over the past few years we've seen Ramona improve 100% from what it was. It's cleaner, friendlier, and the atmosphere is great.
