Ode To A Fairie Ring

Moonrise casts a radiant shine
Upon a circle’s flawless form
Arms of celebrants entwine
Minute, the blossom fairies swarm
The fairie ring they dance within
Provides asylum to their task
All newcomers join akin
Costumed for their evening masque
Toadstools hide their secret rite
Like fortress walls they loom above
Their shadows lengthen with the night
Charmed by lunar light thereof
The little beings bedeck in flowers
So small a mortal cannot see
Whose petals offer magic powers
Of flight, foresight and fantasy
They dance the night till streaks of dawn
Prompt a fairie circle form
Resounding laud to be bestown
To Fancy, by the fairie quorum
They disappear into the morn
sparkles that you see on dew
And upon the toadstool halo borne
A legend to ensue
If you should see a fairie ring
Before the pretty sprites have fled
The magic powers for which they sing
Will be yours, the myth is said
But none have seen a mortal fly
Nor seen what lies in store
Not one can truly testify
This tale of fairie lore
