Creation God gave the flowers beauty, He gave the mountains strength; He gave the wind its graceful moves, He gave his rivers length; Length to reach the tiny creeks or flow to oceans vast; feeding and fulfilling its tributaries passed. He gave the sun a loving warmth to urge new life to grow; to comfort and instill a peace, a nurtured, thriving glow. He made the thunder with its frown, ominous and warning; yet even as it growls, it soothes a promise of a better morning. He gave the rain its cleansing voice, quiet drops to pat the ground; but no less comforting, scolds and guides every living thing around. He gave the seasons color, new days to begin; crispness pure as melted snow, that purges sorrow from within. God thought he liked what he had made, for these were qualities like no other; He added them to humankind when he proclaimed a woman, Mother. 5/7/99 |
