FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER
Further Seems Forever
Ultimate Fakebook
Seville
can't remember when @ Club Downunder
How long ago was this show, anyway?  I have no clue.  Sorry I am just getting around to doing this, but you know how it is.  Anyway, I went to see Further Seems Forever with a few of my Troy friends at this place called Club Down Under on Florida State University's campus.  Ultimate Fakebook headlined the show, and a band called Seville (whose bassist and drummer also play bass and drums for Dashboard Confessional) opened.  The club was really clean and smoke-free, unlike most of the places I go to see shows; it was probably the nicest place I've ever seen a show.  Plus they played some really good music between sets; instead of just playing some generic punk CD you've never heard in your life, they played Weezer and Jeff Buckley over the PA between bands.  Maybe it doesn't matter to anyone but me, but when I go to a punk show, I prefer to hear something besides punk over the PA between bands.  But anyway, I had never heard of Seville, but they were actually pretty good.  They didn't exactly re-invent the wheel or anything with their indie-punk sound, but they were definitely worth listening to.  Several different members (including the drummer) took turns on lead vocals, which gave their sound a little variety.  Good stuff.  After Seville came Further Seems Forever.  This was my first time seeing FSF, so I had never seen them with their original singer (Chris Carraba, who now does Dashboard Confessional).  Further played an awesome set; I had not listened to their album too many times before seeing them, but my friends said they played everything off their album except for "Madison Prep" and "Just Until Sundown," and they played all the songs I was hoping to hear except for "Say It Ain't So" (I really didn't think they would play it anyway, though).  The singer was very intense, and I don't really see how anyone could've been disappointed with his performance as opposed to Chris Carraba's.  I managed to stand in the front row right in front of him, and at the beginning of one of Further's faster songs (I think it was "Pictures of Shorelines") he kind of lunged forward and nearly knocked a monitor right on me!  The only bad thing about their performance is that the crowd just wasn't all that into it; everyone just kind of stood there.  I wouldn't be surprised if they had actually planned to play a longer set but cut it short because of the lame crowd.  Ultimate Fakebook played next.  I actually have a promo copy of their CD, but I had never really given it much of a listen.  They had sort of a power-pop sound with vocals reminiscent of Elvis Costello; they were really good, but we were ready to go home, so after taking some pictures and hearing about three or four songs, we hit the road.  The whole show was really good (especially for $3), and I think I got some pretty good pictures.  ~matt
