July 30, 2000 @ Five Points Music Hall LESS THAN JAKE A New Found Glory Okay, so maybe it's lame for me to do a feature on a show that took place last summer, but who cares. This site wasn't around back then and this is one of the best shows I've ever been to. The Impossibles and SR-71 were also supposed to be there, but couldn't make it. Yeah, it would have been great if the Impossibles had been there, but who cares about SR-71? Anyway, A New Found Glory (who have since dropped the "A" from their name, apparently) went on first after about an hour-and-a-half delay. I had never even heard of this band back then, but I was in for a pleasant surprise. They played their trademark brand of emo-tinged pop-punk and totally rocked. One cool thing about this band is that if you've never heard of them, if you see them live you'll still recognize some songs since they cover cool theme songs from movies. At this show they played the songs from "That Thing You Do," "Karate Kid," and "The Never-Ending Story." Pretty neat, huh? As many of you know by now, this is a great band. Go see them. After A New Found Glory, it was time for the headliners, Less Than Jake. Everybody knows how great LTJ's songs are, but if you've never seen them live, you don't know what you're missing. They are probably the best band I have ever seen live, so if they come anywhere near you GO SEE THEM. You won't be disappointed. They had the audience enraptured from beginning to end. Chris (the guitarist/vocalist) came out dressed like he was in some bad 80's heavy metal band, proving once again that LTJ have their tongues planted firmly in cheek. Their whole set was energetic and melodic; you'd have to be dead not to respond to something like this, and people were going crazy stage-diving and hanging from the rafters. I left soaked in sweat and feeling happier than I had felt in quite a while. After it was over, I went up to their bass player, Roger, and gave him a Lifesaver. I then got him to sign my LTJ cd and the soaking wet t-shirt I was wearing. Less Than Jake are really nice people and will hang out with you after shows, so go see them live if you get the chance. I brought a camera and got some great pics of A New Found Glory and Less Than Jake, so I'll scan them and post them here as soon as possible. (contributed by Matt Chapman) Okay, here's a few pictures. Yeah, I know the quality is crappy, but this is how all my scans seem to end up. The actual pictures look a lot better, but when I scan them, they come out really dark. Anyway, enjoy. ~matt Less Than Jake A New Found Glory |
