Tips for staying in shape during the winter
Winter should be no excuse for adding on unwanted pounds.  Read on to find tips on how to keep in shape, even during the holidays.
Home gym or gym membership
If you are fortunate to have the means to shell out extra cash for either a membership to a gym, or to buy a home gym do so.  Check your local YMCA for classes and family memberships and get the family involved, too.  Some home equipment, too can be cheap.  Check the local paper for classified ads on used equipment, or check your cupboards for soup cans as dumbells.  Use your creativity to think of ways to workout at home, and don't forget to get the family involved.
Shop till you drop (a few pounds)
Who says you can't get a good cardio workout and get a good deal of shoes at the same time?  The mall is a great place to go in the cold winter months for some walking.  Just make sure to avoid all the tempting treats in the food court.
Take up a winter sport
Cross country skiing is ideal for strength and cardio.  Not only does is accelerate you heartbeat, but it tones your legs and even arms.  If skiing isn't your cup of tea, head for the ice skating rink, but don't expect to be doing figure eight right away.  Just the movement of skating is great for you legs and calves.  When the snow falls, help you neighbors shovel theirs paths and driveways, just don't overdo it and don't forget to stretch.
Got 10 minutes?
Exercising for just 10 minutes, 3 times a day can increase metabolism and improve mood, overall fitness and health.  Go ahead, crank up some music and dance, or follow along with an exercise tape.
