Joined Nov 6, 1982 departed Jan 24, 1983  (1 relief trip) Coastwise.

I joined the GulfPride in Port Arthur, TX. The "Pride" was called aptly a "drugstore" tanker. She carried everything. We carried products ranging from Benzene to lube oil. One of the most nasty cargoes I remember carrying on this vessel was CUMINE we used to load it in Philadelphia and take it back to Port Arthur oddly enough.

I enjoyed my time on this ship. The food was well prepared and there was plenty of TV available along the coast. We were on a steady run of Port Arthur, Charleston and Philly.

Note the high vent pipes used to offvent the benzene fumes.

The Gulf Pride was a well maintained ship as was all Gulf Tankers at that time.
