Contractors usually use a construction type lockset to secure a property
while work is being done. This means that many different tradespeople have keys for ease of
access to the property.
If these locks remain on the doors when you take posession of your new home (as they
ususally do without having them re-keyed) then who knows how many people have access to your personal posessions.
In some instances these lock(s) will be master keyed. If five chambers of a lock are
master keyed then over 30 different keys will be able to open the lock.
Most locks can be re-keyed so that only one key will operate it.

We also provide a Residential lock-out service to Landlords who have tenants in arrears on their rent. Landlords must follow the
guidelines as specified by the Ontario Landlord/Tenant Act in the instance of a residential lock-out. We will not proceed to
lock a tenant out of their residential rental unit unless the Sheriff serves the required eviction notice.
In the instance of a Commercial property lockout, the Landlord should have a record of non-payment established with their
Lawyer. The Landlord should post notice at the Commercial rental property specifying the manner in which the locked-out
tenant may retrieve any posessions left at the property.
Tenants add the security of a second deadbolt to your apartment door. If you live in a high-rise apartment building,
then it's likely that your apartment door lock is Master Keyed. This means that anyone who works in property management
and has a Master Key can access your property at any time. A second deadbolt in this situation, can help minimize the number
of people who can access your apartment.
