Here is a similar clamp at the upper end of the torsion spring, attached to a scrap of wood to facilitate securing it to the support. The spring may be removed and replaced for convenient storage. As long as the same spring is used, and it is installed so that the length of the spring remains unchanged, the device will not need to be calibrated for future measurements. Each time I assemble the pendulum, I clamp the ends of the wire so that the ends are flush with the ends of the clamps, ensuring that the length of the spring does not change. |
