--Shinya's Journal--

September 12, 1864

We dock the ship tommaorow. It's really depressing. I know I'm
going to miss everyone and that I'll probably never see them again.
Die comes in lately just to be with me, sometimes we don't even
talk. He seems the most sad that I would be leaving.

Alot of times, I wish I really could stay with them, but I know it's
impossible. Perhaps I can leave something behind for them to
remember me by, but I have nothing with me...

"Shinya?" Die whispered, cracking open Shinya's door. "Shinya.. are
you asleep?"

Shinya sat up in his bed and looked to the door. "No.. why? What is
it?"

Die walked in and closed the door, walking over and sitting on the
bed. "Anou...Levin and Kyo are making so much noise I can't get to
sleep...and Toshiya and Kaoru are in the Captain's quarters making
noise themselves... I don't wanna sleep alone though... anou... can I
sleep in here?"

Shinya giggled. "Die.. you sound like a kid who just had a
nightmare."

Die pouted, though Shinya couldn't see it. "Onegai?"

"Sure." Shinya laid back down, settling down to go back to sleep,
but he gasped as Die started getting under the covers of the
bed. "Die! What are you doing?"

"Shinya... there's only one bed..."

Shinya bit his lip. //That's right... why is my heart beating so
fast?// "Oh yeah..." Shinya shifted around to get comfortable, but
immediately tensed as he felt Die's arms wrap around him and Die's
body pressing against his. "D... Die?"

"Hai?"

"What are you..."

"I'm cold... aren't you?"

Shinya nodded. "Yeah..."

Die snuggled up closer. "Then we'll warm each other, kay?"

"Okay..."

***

Shinya blinked his eyes open in confusion as he saw Die's grinning
face above his. He tried to moves, but discovered that Die was
sitting on his legs and bent over to look him straight in the
eye. "Die?" Shinya struggled to move, but Die kept him there.

"Shinya.. today we dock.." the smile left and Die closed his
eyes. "Are you.. are you leaving?" His voice cracked.

Shinya bit his lip as he felt a pain within. "H.. hai.."

Die nodded. "That's... that's what I thought..." He sighed. "I...
I wish..."

"Die... I... I want you to have Mouse-san." Shinya whispered.

Die opened his eyes and looked at Shinya. "Nani?"

Shinya closed his eyes briefly before looking at Die. "I can't take
him home, momma and pappa will force me to release him because he's a
rodent. I... I think you're the only one I'd want to take care of
him..."

Die nodded and bent down to kiss Shinya's forehead. "I'll take care
of him."

Shinya blinked. //He kissed my forehead... why...// Shinya blushed
momentarily before smiling. "Arigato."

***

Toshiya hugged Shinya tightly. "I'm going to miss you sooooooo
much!" He sobbed.

Shinya smiled saddly. "I'll miss you too." He hugged him back. "I
wish you all could stay at my place while you're docked here."

"We've got so much work, we have to stay on the ship." Kaoru
explained.

Shinya nodded and Toshiya pulled away, wiping tears away with a
sleeve before going into Kaoru's arms and crying some more. Kyo
walked up and hugged Shinya. "Don't forget us ne..." He looked
up. "We can't ever forget you."

Shinya nodded. "I can't, ever." Levin came up and hugged Shinya as
well before both he and Kyo let go and stood together. "I... I guess
I should go now..." Shinya said quietly before looking to Die, who
stood with his bags.

Everyone said their tearful goodbye's, Shinya trying his best not to
cry, and then Die and Shinya set off to Shinya's home with the
instructions Shinya's father had given Shinya. The trip was to take
about an hour and most of the way, Die and Shinya were silent. They
walked through a cool forest type atmosphere after getting out of
town and when Shinya's mansion came into view, Shinya stopped. "It's
just that way... about five more minutes.." he whispered. "I... I
don't want to be home so soon..." He looked to Die. "Can we just
stop for a bit?"

Die nodded and set Shinya's bags on the grass to the side of the road
before taking Shinya's hand and leading him to sit down with him next
to the bags. Shinya sat with his hands on his lap and sighed,
staring into nothing. "Die... you... you know that night that you
had me wish on that star?"

"Hai..."

"Did... did you wish anything too?" Shinya looked up to Die.

"Hai."

Shinya nodded. "Has... has it come true?"

"No..."

"Sou desu..." Shinya hugged his knees up to his chest. "Do you
think it will?"

"There's a chance... I hope..." Die ripped some grass out of the
ground and lifted it up, watching the blades fall back onto the
ground. "What about you? Has yours come true yet?"

Shinya thought for a moment. "I don't know... I... I really don't
know... it hasn't really had a chance to occur yet..."

"Hmm.. do you think it will?"

Shinya looked to Die. "I hope so." Shinya smiled slightly. "I
really hope so." Tears started to come from Shinya then and Die's
eyes widened. "I.. I... why am I crying?" Shinya shook and tried to
wipe the tears from his eyes, but they kept on falling.

Die reached out and wrapped his arms around Shinya, pulling him close
and stroking his hair. "Shh... shh Shin-chan..." He rocked back and
forth slightly as he tried to soothe the smaller man. "It'll be
alright..." A tight ball formed in Die's throat and he felt like
crying as well, but stayed strong for Shinya. "Don't worry... shh..."

Shinya nodded and sniffled into Die's shirt, hugging Die firmly, not
wanting to leave. "Die... I think... I think I'll miss you most..."

Die felt tears stinging stronger at those words and he let one slip,
closing his eyes and nodding. One of his hands reached for Shinya's
and he held it firmly to his chest. "Shinya..."

Shinya pulled back and looked at Die's face. "When... when do you
all leave port?"

"In a week."

"Sou desu.." He looked away. "Die.. I.. I know if I stay out here
with you I won't be able to go... but... but I have to go back home..
understand?"

Die nodded. "I don't like it.. but.. I understand..."

"Okay..." Shinya picked up his bags and stood up shakedly, now that
he was in a dress again it felt wierd. Die stood up too and hugged
Shinya one last time. Shinya looked up at Die shyly before placing a
kiss on Die's cheek. "Sayounara."

Die nodded, unable to repeat the words himself.

"Oh! Master Shinya!" Katsura, the family servant, fawned over
Shinya the moment he opened the door to him. "Welcome back!"
Katsura looked over his shoulder. "Rei! Go tell Mizuki that Master
Shinya is home!" Katsura turned back to Shinya and looked him
over. "Oh Shinya! You look tired! And your hair! What happened to
it?"

"Lice." Shinya lied. "We had to cut it."

"Oh, what a shame! At least it grows back though, right?" Katsura
looked at the bags in Shinya's hands. "Oh, no sailors would help you
with your things? The nerve! Making one such as you do work! Here,
let me take those." Katsura took the bags from Shinya's hands and
gave them to an awaiting Mizuki. "Take those to Master Shinya's
room." Katsura looked Shinya over and sighed. "You need to bathe
and then take a nap before seeing your parents. They're out of the
house right now, so it's a perfect time." Katsura took Shinya's hand
and gasped. "Shinya! Your hand is so coarse!"

Shinya nodded. "I was bored, so I asked the sailors to teach me some
things..."

"And your skin is darkened!"

"Yes, I was out alot as well."

Katsura started to lead Shinya up the stairs. "Well, let's just go
up and clean you away of the ship."

"Okay." Shinya followed. //But... I want the ship...//
