From One Couple To The Other

Part 2

Shinya entered his apartment feeling very gloomy, for a
change. He threw his coat on the sofa and just sighed. Die always did
that to him, a good thing nobody, except Kaoru, knew where he lived
or else the red head would probably bug him all the time. As far has
he's known, the guitarist didn't even have his phone number, which
was actually very good...even if sometimes Shinya would like to hear
his voice on the other end the phone. But only Kaoru called him, Kyo
did too sometimes...but very rarely. Before, he would call him at
least once a week asking him to go drink, but since the drummer
always refused, Kyo had given up. Besides, he didn't really want Die
to bug him on the phone too didn't he. During practice was enough, he
didn't need an everyday teasing from the dear red head guitarist, who
was starting to really piss him off after all.
Sometimes, the drummer would wonder why he didn't just throw his drum
sticks on Die's head, that would really make him feel better. But it
was mean and Shinya wasn't mean, Die was. Even if Kaoru always told
him it was just teasing, it seemed mean to the him. Die didn't see
that, or maybe he did and it just made him feel important or
something. Why that bastard! That was it wasn't it? Of course it was!
The sadistic way Die always pissed Shinya off was for his own
pleasure, nothing else could answer his way of acting anyway. That
smile he always had proved it anyway...

The drummer was starting to loose the calm that he had
finally acquired from his little walk. Breathing deeply, he relaxed
himself again. Die wasn't mean after all...he just liked to play.
Shinya knew that.

The young man sat by his window and looked out. It was
already very dark and some shops closed. Resting his head on the cold
glass, he watched the people in the cafe that was on the other side
of the street. At least, they weren't alone like he always was. He
wanted company, maybe he could call Kyo and tell him he would come
with him in one of those clubs of his. "That's desperate...", he told
himself. "You can't be that lonely, you saw the others half an hour
ago!" The drummer was starting to loose his nerve again. "Why do the
others always get well together and I stay in my corner? I'm don't
stink do I? I'm sure there's something wrong with me, maybe I should
change my looks or something." Pulling on his long hair gently,
Shinya kept his bored look on his face.
Jumping on his sit, he looked down. What's that? Putting both his
hands on the window, Shinya kneeled down and eyed two people in the
cafe. The two of them looked odd, almost like Toshiya and Die. He
blinked, it was them! What were they doing there? And he thought
Toshiya had ran out the studio crying after Kaoru yelled at him. His
expression going cold, the drummer stood up and ran to his washroom.
He really had to change!

Opening every drawer he could see, Shinya finally found what
he wanted, scissors. He smiled to the mirror. Now Die had to look at
him next time, only at him. He was going to have him no matter what,
Toshiya could go to hell for all he cared.
*****************

That day felt a little breezy, maybe it was the loss of hair
or something like that, but Shinya was freezing. He ran in the studio
trying to stay warm, which seemed very hard. He took a hot chocolate
in the cafe machine and turned around. He walked in the room where
the others were waiting and looked up when he heard the four of them
gasp. Everyone was looking at him astonished. "What? What's wrong
with you guys?" Die stood up and walked towards Shinya, not believing
his eyes. He put one of his hand on the drummer's head and pulled
little locks of hair. Turning around him, Die didn't know what to say.

He finally faced the drummer and smiled. "It looks good." His smile
grew wider. Shinya recognised that grin, Die was going to say
something mean again. Putting his left hand on Die's mouth, the
drummer's expression grew dark. "Don't say it, I don't want to hear
what ever you wanted to say. Especially if you wanted to tease me."
The guitarist looked surprised for a second and smiled again. "I was
just going to say that you looked attractive Shin-chan." Shinya eyed
him, was he telling the truth? Of course he wasn't, that was his
usual teasing as always. Even if I told him not to say anything, Die
couldn't help himself...that was so like him. Shinya hated that, the
nerve of him!
How could he think that Die was good looking and actually nice when
the man only teased him all the time?

He was never serious with him, only with Toshiya. The
beautiful woman wannabe Toshiya. He didn't like the bassist either,
so there! Actually, Kaoru was the only one worth his attention, why
didn't he get over Die when there was somebody much sweeter and nicer
around him? WHY? Of course, because their leader loved Toshiya with
all his heart. A little more and Shinya would have hit himself, but
keeping his cool he closed his eyes and breathed slowly. He looked up
again, Die had the same look...the teasing one. The young man shook
his head and sat behind his drums. "Thanks anyway..."

Toshiya approached him with the flirty smile he always
had. "Why did you cut it Shin-chan?" The drummer didn't say anything,
he didn't want to see or talk to the bassist at the moment, the cafe
scene still flashing in front of his eyes. Finishing his hot
chocolate, he threw the cup in the paper basket next to him and
looked at Kaoru. "Are we going to start or not?" The leader looked at
him, not believing what the usually kind Shinya had done to Toshiya.
He pointed the hurt Toshiya behind the drummer but the young man
asked again. "Are we going to start or not?" Kaoru chuckled, must be
the hair. Something was cut from Shinya and put in the garbage with
his hair. "What's so funny?"
And again, now the little drummer was mad at him, how'd that happen?
The older man started laughing louder, he couldn't believe what his
cute friend had done. Cutting his hair...of course, it was for Die.
But what did he do when the guitarist told him it was cute? He didn't
think it could be true. Why did he do it then? Just for fun...?
Kaoru didn't even stop on that thought, Shinya never had fun with his
actions, he knew that. Shinya was too down to earth to do that kind
of thing, it wasn't possible...like Die saying he was cute to him.

Kaoru was now laughing so hard he couldn't even hold his
guitar anymore. It was so funny! Toshiya approached him, smiling at
the sight of Kaoru loosing his head over Shinya's foolish act. He
kneeled in front of him and blew on his face. "Oi! Relax will you."
Kaoru opened one eye and sat up straight. He smiled at Toshiya who
started to blush slightly. "Help me up will you?" When Toshiya felt
Kaoru's hand in his, he felt relieved. He was being nice to him!
Toshiya thought he was going to cry, Kaoru was nice, Kaoru was nice!
The mean Kaoru was gone he was gone because...because of Shinya... Oh
no, not Shinya...not Shinya. Die loved Shinya, Kaoru didn't...Die
loved Shinya KAORU DIDN'T! Kaoru was his, not to anybody else, his
now and forever. He wouldn't let the drummer...he wouldn't. Besides
Kaoru couldn't really love Shinya...could he?
**********************

Toshiya went to Die's place after the practice, feeling he
needed some place to run away. Since he hadn't gone to his place
before, he still had his bass and was playing random notes here and
there. The tune was melancholic, of course, and it didn't even
make
him feel closer to better. Coming back from his little kitchen, Die
put a glass of water on the table and looked at the bassist.
Snatching the bass from him, Die stared down at the lonely looking
face. "Alright, what is it NOW?"
Toshiya looked up with his puppy eyes and smiled. Die grunted and
sat down next to Toshiya. "What's with the long face?
Weren't you
happy after that talk we had yesterday? I thought everything was
fine!" Toshiya turned around and took the glass of water in his
hands. He signed putting it back down, he wasn't thirsty after
all.

Toshiya remembered well how many times Die told him
yesterday. He even told him many reasons for Kaoru not to hate him
and every one of them made sense. Die wasn't just good at teasing
but he comforted very well too. But Toshiya's heart still ached
from
the problems that were happening all at once. The pain got worse when
the bassist heard a ringing, where was that coming from now? He saw
Die stand and pick up the phone. "Hello? Oh hi Kaoru, how are you
doing?" Toshiya was surprise to hear it was their leader, maybe
there
was something wrong after all. He heard Die laugh and decided to play
a little bass while the red head was on the phone, it couldn't
hurt
could it?
His part came out pretty easily and Toshiya didn't even react to
that event. Of course it came out well, he wasn't as bad as he
looked.
He never concentrated has much in practice, maybe he should…but
now
he was so gloomy.

He never saw Die turn around shutting up to listen to him, but jumped
when he heard him talk again. "See what I mean Toshi, when you
put your heart into it, it goes out pretty well." Toshiya stopped
and
closed his eyes never answering. "Hey? What's that? Huh uh,
yes it's it Toshiya, sure…Toshi, Kaoru wants to speak to
you."

I took a while for Toshiya to analyse what Die had said but
he finally headed for the phone after he put his bass on the table in
front of him. He took the phone from Die's hand and tried to
relax. "Yes Kaoru?"
The leader was smiling on the other end, he had to say that Toshiya
had done a good job and to do it again on the next practice. He had
to tell him he knew he could play that beautifully, that he was in
the band because he had so much talent. But the good words never came
out…

"See that Toshiya, you played well. But you weren't
daydreaming were you? Why don't you try doing that in the
practice too, that would make us very happy and feel successful."
The
bassist didn't say a word, the mean Kaoru was back and even if he
had
played well he was scolding him….again! Toshiya knew his leader
had
been nice to him because of Shinya. He knew it! Now, what ever he
did, Kaoru would never look at him. He signed.
"Oh don't give me that Toshiya! Next time I'll expect you
to do as good as you just did. You do not play well only at Die's
place, but in practice and on the stage! Now cheer up and try to do it
again as much as possible, you have to be able to do it good next
time or you'll be out of the band!" Toshiya bit his lip, out
of the
band? Wasn't that a little off limits? How could he get out when
he
wasthe only good bassist Kaoru had found? Maybe he wasn't that
good
after all… Maybe Kaoru had already found somebody else!

Holding the tears, Toshiya finally talked back. "Yes…of
course Kaoru-san, I'll do my best." Kaoru-san? KAORU-SAN??
Where was that coming from? Since when did he call the leader Kaoru-
san? Was he that pissed off? My god, Toshiya hoped Kaoru hadn't
took
it wrong, because now he was going to hate him for
good…Kaoru-san,
really!
After a little goodbye, Toshiya put the phone done, not believing
what he just done. But Kaoru was wrong too, being so mean for nothing
like that. The bassist turned around and looked at his friend with
tears rolling down his face. "You like me Die…don't
you?" The guitarist didn't know what to do. What did Kaoru
say now? He
smiled sweetly. "Of course I do Toshi." Toshiya forced a
smile and
sat next to Die laying his head on his friend's shoulder.
"Then….will you go out with me?"
