Materials:

#10 bedspread weight crochet cotton: small amts. of black, red, and white

Crochet Hook Size 7 (1.65mm) Steel

Styrofoam balls: (1) 2 inch, (1) 2 1/2 inch, & (1) 3 inch

Pearlescent acrylic paint

(2) 7 mm round eyes - eyes

(1) 6mm round eye - Nose

(12) 3mm round eyes - Mouth and buttons on tuxedo

(1) 30mm or 35mm musical button that plays "Frosty the Snowman"

6 inch broom

Fabric stiffener

Polyfil to stuff arms

 

Before you begin, flatten the side of the foam balls that are to be glued together. Glue middle and bottom balls tog, glue head on after you put his tuxedo on. Paint the balls with 2 or more coats of paint. Cut place to insert musical button on bottom. Glue in musical button.TOP HAT: (black thread)

Rnd 10: Working in front loops only- ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in ea st around, join as previous round, finish off and weave in ends.

Rows 2-12: Working in back LPs, sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. DO NOT TURN at end of Row 12.

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in ends of rnd 1-12. Join with sl st in 19 sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 14-15: (working in rounds) ch 1, sc in ea sc around, join as previous round. (12 sc)

Rnd 16: Ch 1, sc in same st, (sc next 2 sc tog-dec made, sc in next sc) 3 times, dec next 2 st, sl st in 1A sc. (8 sc)

Rnd 17: Ch 1, (dec next 2 st tog) 4 times, join as previous round.

Rnd 18: Ch 1, sl st 2nd & 4th sc tog, finish off and weave in ends.

Thumb: Hold mitten so Rows 1 & 12 are pointing UP join thread with sl st through both thickness, sl st opening closed, sl st in sc of Rnd 13, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hk, (hdc, sl st back in same sc), finish off and weave in ends. stuff arms, attach mittens on ends. Dress snowman. Glue buttons on front of snowman. Place broom in snowman's hands and secure in place. stiffen hat. Glue on eyes, nose, and mouth. Make scarf and attach around neck. Secure in place.

SCARF: (Red Thread)

Rnd 1: Ch 6, sc in 2nd ch fr hk and next 4 ch, ch 1 turn. (5 sc)

Rnd 2-80: Sc in ea sc across, ch 1, turn. After last rnd, finish off and weave in ends. For fringe on each end of scarf cut 10-2" strings, fold ea string in half, insert hook in one sc or starting ch and pull loop of thread through st with hook pick up ends and pull through. Pull tight , rep 9 more times. (5 times on each end of scarf) - cut strings even.Snowman can be either hung on the tree or can stand alone for a mantle decoration. Kids 1ove him.
