SUNFLOWER

Part 1

The sun felt warm as the rays of it touched his face. The sun made the strands of his auburn hair shine as he stood out in the balcony. Shinya was dressed in his sleeping clothes; an oversized maroon T-shirt and a pair of shorts and his hair was clipped up with a metal hair clip. In his hands was a blue watering can which he was using to water the sunflower in the balcony.

Suddenly a pair of long slender arms wrapped around his neck from behind. "Good morning," Toshiya said then yawned with his mouth wide open.

"Wah, have you brushed your teeth?" Shinya pouted as the brunette placed a peck on his right cheek.

Toshiya stuck his pink tongue out at the younger man. "Yes, I have! What’s for breakfast today? I’m hungry…"

"Ai, I forgot to go out and buy breakfast this morning!" Shinya said as if in shock but he immediately returned to watering the flowers.

Toshiya tightened his arms around Shinya’s waist. "Wei, don’t ignore me!" he placed his sharp chin on Shinya’s bony shoulder. "I want to eat!"

"Then why don’t you go out and buy? Don’t expect me to do everything for you ne!" he said, rather crossly.

Toshiya pouted then he just hugged Shinya. "Don’t be mad at me, ne…" Gently he kissed Shinya’s cheek again. "Mm…morning kiss for you." He turned the auburn-haired man around and kissed him on the nose.

"Wah…"

"Wah! Two bishonen making out on the balcony!!!" Suddenly a voice shouted from the ground, one floor below them. Shinya quickly turned around to find an irritating redhead there. Angrily, he threw the watering can down at him. "Ow!" Die side stepped the falling object. "Ohayo, Shin-chan! Ohayo, Toshiya!!!" he smiled.

Toshiya giggled as he waved back at Die while Shinya went back inside the flat, growling.

"Ne, Die-kun, did you bring breakfast for us?" Toshiya leaned against the metal railing with chipped green paint.

"Oho, of course!" Die yelled back and he disappeared from Toshiya’s sight.

In less than 5 seconds time, the doorbell rung. Shinya walked towards the door, opened it and slammed it shut after seeing the grinning face. But Toshiya, being hungry, quickly rushed to the door and let Die in.

"Woh, Shinya can be so rude at times," he shook his head as he placed the hot congee and coffee on the round table in the hall. Shinya ignored the redhead and went to his room to change.

"Hee, but he’s so cute that way," Toshiya said as he dipped his spoon into the broth and slurped it into his mouth. Die took out a cup of coffee for himself, taking a sip of it.

"I am -not- cute!" Shinya’s head peeked out of his room before disappearing back inside with a slam of the door.

"Like I said, cute," Toshiya continued eating.

"Yeah, I think Shin-chan’s very kawaii too!!!" Die laughed aloud. Then he leaned on the table with his elbow, resting his chin in his palm as he looked at Toshiya. A thoughtful look came across his features. "Say, Toshiya, want to go out for dinner some time?"

Toshiya ate the last spoonful of broth and looked up at Die with a satisfied expression. "Ah…" he wiped his mouth with the edge of the red and white checked table cloth(Shinya: >-<!). "Dinner? Why not?" he smiled at the redhead. "I’ll tell Shinya and we can set a suitable time ne. Oh, and Kaoru and Kyo too ^^."

Die’s lips pouted. "Eh, no. I mean dinner with just you and me lor…" he looked deeply into Toshiya’s pretty eyes.

"You mean, as in…a dinner date?" Toshiya blinked.

The redhead nodded.

A blush surfaced on Toshiya’s cheeks. "Ano…" His eyes flicked up but seeing Die looking at him, he averted his eyes, fidgeting. "I guess it would be okay." He bit his lips, blushing even harder.

"This Saturday?" Die’s hand reached for Toshiya. He covered Toshiya’s smaller smoother hands in his, bringing them up to his lips then kissing the knuckles.

Toshiya couldn’t help but smile even though he felt so shy now. "Okay…" he answered.

He looked up and their eyes met. But the romantic atmosphere didn’t last long(like it lasted for 2 seconds) because Shinya barged out of his room into the hall, coughing loudly as he stood at behind Die’s chair. With angry eyes, he glared at the top of Die’s head. Die must have felt it because he couldn’t see Shinya but he still felt the top of his hair with his hand(wah, Shinya’s got supernatural powers!).

Die turned around and saw Shinya’s eyes sending daggers at him. Toshiya smiled sheepishly as a bead of sweat began to roll down his forehead. "Um, I bought you breakfast with coffee too," Die told him.

Shinya grabbed the styrofoam cup from the table and took a large gulp from it. Die wanted to stop him but Shinya already finished drinking it. Actually he wanted to tell Shinya that it was his coffee…

"I’m going to college," he said with a note of finality as he walked to the door.

Toshiya stood up; the legs of the chair scraped noisily against the floor as he pushed it back. "Ah, Shinya…" He wanted to tell him something but he paused, hesitating. There were a few reasons why he didn’t say it out. One, because Die was there; two, Shinya’s eyes were glaring at him so intensely that he felt scared; three… Toshiya blushed and coughed weakly. "Take care, okay. Bye," he waved at the younger man as he exited the apartment.

Then he turned around to find Die already standing behind him. "Na, I have to go guard the congee stall now," Die said.

"Okay," Toshiya smiled then opened the door for Die, pushing the pairs of obstructing slippers out of the way with his bare feet. Then as Die was halfway out, he suddenly grabbed Die’s arm and stood up on his toes to give Die’s cheek a kiss. "See you, Die-kun." He flashed a sweet smile at the redhead.

Die felt his heart go ‘thump-thump-thump’ loudly against his chest as he said goodbye to Toshiya.

Toshiya closed the door softly then leaned against it, sighing softly. He looked at the clock. Hm, it was still early and he was still sleepy especially since last night he had a late shift. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. Soon he was back on his crumpled bed sheets, sleeping again.
