Chapter 8

"-I'll be down in a minute dad, said Lucky, when he saw Liz's face change colors"

Luke took the chair and closed the door on his way out. Lucky turned Elizabeth around and looked at her.

"-Elizabeth? Are you OK? He asked concerned

-It's you. You're Cowboy.

-My dad called me like that all my life.

-I knew it all along. The eyes, the height, the hair. And then Nikolas, the guitar, the laptop, it just added up

-Elizabeth what are you rambling about?

-You're Cowboy. Lorenzo. Moon's friend

-How do you know that?

-I'm Outcast. Nice to meet you"

Elizabeth said the last sentence sarcastically and got away from Lucky, walking towards the door. Before she could open it Lucky put his hand on it, blocking it.

"-What the hell does that mean Elizabeth?

-Oh Come on Lucky, time to stop playing. You knew all along who I was.

-How was I supposed to know?

-Don't play dumb. It doesn't suit you. I told you everything. How I lived with my grandmother, how my sister's name was Sarah and we didn't get along, how my date didn't kiss me, the most obvious of all, my name! Every time you called I would say I had a phone call. You must have thought it was pretty cute didn't you?

-Outcast said she came from Boulder, how was I supposed to know you lied

-I didn't lie! I do come from Boulder. You didn't asked me where I lived now did you? You asked where I came from. I answered. I didn't lie! You didn't want me to know your name didn't you? That's why you gave Toukie a hard time when she would tease you about it. You know what? Tell them I didn't feel so good I don't care, but I'm outta here, Cowboy"

Elizabeth pulled on the door and Lucky closed it with a bang.

"-You're not going anywhere until you tell me why you're so mad

-I don't know why I'm so mad, ok? I'm hurt and confused and I don't know why.

I think it's better if I just leave."

She tried to open the door again and this time, he didn't stop her. She went apologize to Lucky's family, saying she wasn't feeling well, and Luke told Lucky to bring her home but she refused, saying she didn't want him to miss the party because of her. She felt like the world's been crashing down on her. Walking home she tried and stop the tears, but no use. As always she ruined everything. Why did she come down on him like that? He didn't do anything wrong. If she had told him from the start she was from PC too, this mess wouldn't have happened. But how could they be the same person. Cowboy and Lucky were so different from one another. Once again, her mouth got ahead of her brain.

Elizabeth didn't want to let herself admit the real reason she was so mad. She liked both of them. At some point, she was feeling guilty yesterday to say yes to Lucky when he called and asked about Nikolas' party, because she knew she wouldn't be able to spend the evening talking to Cowboy, but if she had refused to go to be able to talk to Cowboy, she would've felt guilty to have missed Lucky. And now, knowing he was the same guy, she felt so stupid.

Elizabeth ran upstairs to her room, happy to see that neither Sarah nor Gram were there. She didn't want to be alone, but she didn't want to be with them. So she went in the study and opened the computer, knowing at least one person would be in the chat.

"Outcast: Hey!

MoonV: HI Elizabeth, I was wondering if we would see you today

Outcast: We?

MoonV: Jackie and I. She had a phone call to make, she'll be back soon. So, how was your date?

Outcast: It was good, I had fun.

MoonV: God, you don't say much about it, you would talk more if you had your teeth pulled or something. What happened? Was he a complete loser?

Outcast: NO HE ISN'T! I told you I had fun. We went to his brother's house and we danced, ate pizza, talked.

MoonV: Ok, Ok, sorry, LOL, no need to jump for my throat there

Outcast: Sorry Moon, it was a bad day for me, and I needed some company. Don't mind me if I snap ok?

MoonV: Wanna talk about it?

Outcast: Well, there's the guy that I really like. I mean REALLY like. And I found out something about him. It's hard to explain without telling you the whole story and I would feel too stupid.

MoonV: If you want to tell me that's fine, I won't make fun I swear.

Outcast: I need to talk to someone about it or I'll go crazy. I met a guy on the Internet. I really liked him, we were having fun, but then a guy at school started to be interested in me and asking me out. I was beginning to go nuts, because if I went out with Lucky, I wouldn't be able to talk to this Internet guy, but if I stayed and chatted with him, I would miss Lucky. Then, this afternoon, I found out they were the same guy.

MoonV: Then what's the problem? Whatever you decided to do, you would've been with him. Don't get me wrong, it would've blown me away too. Did he know you were the Internet girl?

Outcast: He says he didn't. And the way he talked on the Internet, he liked me Too

MoonV: And you have a problem with this because???? I mean it's pretty obvious. As Lucky (That's his name right?) He liked you and as the Internet guy, he liked you. I guess that means he REALLY likes you

Outcast: LOL, thanks Moon, I needed someone who wouldn't make me feel stupid. But there is nothing I can do, I mean I ran out on him. Probably hates me right now.

Cowboy entered the chat

MoonV: Hey there Lorenzo, I thought you said in your email you wouldn't be around today?

Cowboy: Well, the plans are still on, but I didn't feel like celebrating anymore.

MoonV: Why not?

Cowboy: I don't know OK Moon? I don't really wanna talk about it, I don't even know myself.

MoonV: Boy, am I lucky today

Cowboy: What the hell is that suppose to mean?

MoonV: It MEANS that you are the second person to walk in here and said to have had a crappy day. Why are you so mad because I said I was "lucky'? Oh my God! Elizabeth, is it what I think?

Outcast: Bingo

Cowboy: Elizabeth, I didn't know you were in here.

Outcast: Hi Lorenzo.

MoonV: Well, look at the time, I have to leave, I'll you all later

Cowboy: You don't have to leave, I'm not staying. I just came in to say a quick hi

Outcast: No, I'm the outcast here, I'll go. Bye guys

MoonV: ELIZABETH WAIT

Cowboy: ELIZABETH WAIT

Outcast: Wow my ears are burning LOL

Cowboy: Well, a burning stove is not a place to put ears

MoonV: HUH?

Cowboy: When I was young, my father used to say when I was bad "If I catch you, when I'll be finished your butt will burn so much you won't be able to sit" And being the smart ass that I am, I answered "Well a stove is not a place to put a butt dad"

Outcast: ROTFLMBO, I just imagine your father's face. Too funny

MoonV: So I guess I'm not the only one who gets your comment hey Boy?

Cowboy: Compared to some of the stuff I told dad or Nikolas, you were home free moon.

MoonV: I'm glad I was, but I think you are cute when you say these little smart-ass comment.

Outcast: I think he's cute when he doesn't say anything at all! LOL ;o)

Cowboy: Now, Elizabeth, be nice LOL

Outcast: I'm always nice, that's part of my charm. That's why people like me so much

Cowboy: Whatever

Outcast: (_!_)

Cowboy: Sorry Elizabeth, gotta say it, for moon's sake. I don't wanna see your hairy ass.

Outcast: Bite me

MoonV: LOL, you sound like an old married couple

Cowboy: Are you call us old? Her maybe, but I'm at the tip of my youth

Outcast: Yeah he still wears diapers

MoonV: ROTFLMBO, I don't wanna know how you found that out Liz, trust me

Cowboy: Hey guys, my dad is threatening to sing a song from the disco era if I don't come down and greet my aunt and her new boy toy LOL. I'll be back tomorrow. Elizabeth, I'll see you in English class OK?

Outcast: Sure, bye. Oh Lorenzo?

MoonV: Bye Boy

Cowboy: Yeah?

Outcast: Are you eating soon?

Cowboy: Are you crazy? I'll have time to knit a sweater before we even get to the appetizers.

MoonV: LOL, sounds like my family!

Cowboy: Now I'm really going, he's singing!

Cowboy left the chat

MoonV: That went well

Outcast: Yeah it did. I'm starting to think I over-reacted

MoonV: Maybe a little

<-------------------------------------------------------------------------------->

Outcast: Very funny. Listen, I think I'll go, I'll see you tomorrow.

MoonV: Bye Elizabeth

Outcast left the chat"

Elizabeth sat on her bed, wondering if she'd have the courage. She didn't have any choice. The mess was her fault, she over-reacted. Lucky was right, he had no way to know it was her. He was probably just pushing the coincidences, like she kept doing.

She found herself standing outside The Spencers' door, wondering if she could ring the doorbell or turn around and go home. She saw her hand lift up and knock. After what it seemed like forever, the door opened and she came face to face with Lucky.

"-I'm feeling a little better now. If it's not too late, can I come in and finish our date?"
