-I know but that still ticks me off. I should've been able to fix that, and it kills me that I'm not. Well, if there's anything else I can do, let me know.
-I will, and thank you again. I will deefinitely recommend you to my friends. Well, I'll see you around. Good-bye Mister Jett
-Call me Travis. Oh and you have my phoone number? In case you need someone to put up your new computer
-Yes I do thank you. Bye, Travis"
Lucky walked away from the woman. He needed the work she was giving him. Not really for the money, but for keeping him from going crazy. Spending time with Jeremy and Elizabeth just wasn't enough anymore. They had been in Greece for a month now, and Lucky was going numb from doing nothing. Jeremy's school work was as far as he could go. The kid was now going through 6th grade books. Lucky didn't want the boy to be too advanced when he would go into classes in September.
Elizabeth was working too. She was babysitting the kids of their next door neighbor during the day. Lucky was just in love with the sight she was giving him. The two children were just adorable. The eldest son was only 3, named Steven. He was Jeremy's best friend. The two boys spent days playing with each other. Lucky was just glad Jeremy was finally socializing with children, other than with only his parents. Rebecca, the youngest one, was not even one year old yet, and she was simply the cutest thing to have around, and she was in love with Lucky. As soon as Lucky passed the door, no one could hold her again, except him. Elizabeth was just in her element. Not that Lucky pictured her as a stay at home mom, but the children did make her glow.
They talked about having children, but not yet, they had plenty to do with Jeremy as it was. They were still young, they had their whole lives ahead of them. They talked about using protection, and they agreed on the pill, even though they didn't make love again since their first time. Elizabeth wasn't ready to do it again, Lucky thought, and he didn't want to push. He just needed her by his side.
"-Anybody home? Asked Lucky
-We're in the living room! Said Elizabeeth"
Lucky arrived in the living, only to see Luke sitting on the couch, Jeremy sitting on his lap. When Luke saw his son he got up and took him in his arms. Elizabeth could hear the slaps in the back they were giving each other.
"-Dad, what are you doing here? Asked Lucky, smiling
-Well, I missed my son, my daughter in llaw and my grandson, is that a crime?
-Dad, this is me your talking to, not moom. Now, what's the real reason you are here?
-Ok, Ok, you got me Cowboy. Helena knowws where you are. Don't ask me how I know, I just do.
-Well, we got to get out of here! Said Lucky. Jeremy, go pack your stuff like I thought you. Elizabeth, is our stuff packed?
-Whoa slow down Cowboy. I thought we woould blow Helena off. We'll do something we haven't done in a really long time
-What's that?
-Let's go camping! How about it? Us annd the woods, for a couple of weeks."
Lucky could tell Elizabeth wasn't very fond of the idea, but Jeremy was already jumping up and down with excitation. And Lucky had to admit the idea was going in his mind and he liked it. He hadn't been camping with his dad in ages, but he would get to show Jeremy everything Luke showed him like how to build a fire, how to clean fish, hunt for food, all the keys to survival. Of course they would take supplies, but Lucky would still show him the ropes. The more he thought about it, the more Lucky liked the idea.
After a while Elizabeth said yes, and she told their neighbor she would be gone for a while. They went to the store and bought two tents, flashlights, ropes, and all sorts of other stuff. Elizabeth could not believe how much it took to spend a couple of days with mother nature. What amazed her the most was, with all their equipment, Lucky and Luke were able to bring them with only two bags on their backs. The bags weighted a ton, but they didn't even flinch. Elizabeth saw, at that moment, how strong Lucky really was.
They were deep into the woods. They had been walking for what it seemed to Liz to be hours when, finally, Luke said they could stop. It was a little clearing, big enough for them to put up both their tents and still have enough place to move and build their fire at night. Jeremy helped Luke to put up the tents, while Lucky started the fire for their diner. Elizabeth was looking for something to do, when she saw two big logs to take with her. She pulled them near the fire, so they would have a place to sit down. Next she took the pots and pans, metal plates and silverware they bought at the store and build a little table with wood sticks for Lucky to put the plates on. Luke and Jeremy were both whistling different tunes, and Lucky was singing a third one, getting Liz to laugh and say she was getting a headache.
They ate boiled potatoes and hamburger steaks. They had brownies for desert and, after eating, Elizabeth went down to the little river down south to wash everything. Even if it was only 7:30 on a summer night, the sun was slowly going down and the darkness was taking over, but Elizabeth wasn't scared. The river wasn't far, and Lucky was near. If something was wrong, she just had to scream and Lucky would get to her in no time. While she was down she filled up the pot with water, and Jeremy went to join her and help her bring the stuff back.
"-So what do we do until it's time to go to sleep? Asked Elizabeth around 9, after everything was ready for the night
-Anything. We can talk, read by the firre, sing, answered Lucky
-Sing? Said Elizabeth, just like that? And what are we suppose to sing? Campfire songs?
-Jeremy, can you get me my guitar pleasee? Asked Lucky, while he sat down on the log
-You brought your guitar? Asked Elizabeeth
-You wouldn't catch me dead without it, you should know that by now. Jeremy was in charge of it while we were walking. He had my guitar and two other bags! Thank you Cowboy, Lucky said, after Jeremy gave him the instrument.
-What are you going to sing us son? Askked Luke, drinking a cup of coffee and taking Jeremy between his legs.
-Something I heard and learned, tell me what you think OK? Jeremy, you heard me practice time and time again, feel free to join me in the chorus"
Lucky cleared his throat, and looked deep into Elizabeth's eyes, getting her heart to stop. She couldn't get enough of his singing, and tonight was no different. She heard notes going in the night, and Lucky's face became concentrated, as it always did when he sang to her during the last months. Jeremy started to clap his hands to the music, and Elizabeth and Luke followed.
"Love, I see forever in your eyes
I can see heaven in your smile
And when I hold you close
I don't want to let go
Because deep in my soul I know girl
You are the only light I see
Your love means everything to me
I Know that we will never part
Cause you'll always be here in my heart
(With Jeremy)
If the sun should refuse to rise
And the moon doesn't hang in the night
The tides won't change, seasons rearranged
When the world is through
I will still love you
(Lucky alone)
Girl you're like an angel from above
Sent here to shower me with your love
Hold me beneath your wings
Tell me all of the things
All the hopes and the dreams we can share
Cause I'll be your shelter from the storm
I'll be the fire that keeps you warm
I'll be your light in the dark
Cause you'll always be here in my heart
If anything could last forever
It's what I feel for you
Oh baby you touch my heart in ways
That words could never say
That's why I'll always love you
(With Jeremy)
If the sun should refuse to rise
And the moon doesn't hang in the night
The tides won't change, seasons rearranged
When the world is through
I will still love you
I will still love you"
Everybody applauded, and Luke whistled with two fingers in his mouth, getting everyone to laugh. Lucky started to sing another song and this time, Luke joined him. Elizabeth, for the first time, saw the closeness Lucky talked so much about. They were both transported somewhere else with the song, feeling it with every sense in their body.
The night went on for a while, and the forest was filled with something, before humans took possession of the land, that only the wind could make. Music.
