Chapter 2

"-Elizabeth, did you talk to the doctors about this?

-Yes! He told me I had temporary selective amnesia, and that it would go away, but I don't have amnesia! I know who I know!

-Liz, listen to me. I don't think it will go away! You have to tell Doctor Jones what you just told me, about being 14 years old

-Why? What does my age have to do with anything?

-Cause you will be 17 in three months LIZ!"

Bobbie came in at this moment and lectured Nikolas about being out of his room, alone.

"-Bobbie, something is wrong with Liz, could you call doctor Jones? Said Nikolas

-What?

-He says I am 16 years old nurse Spencer, but I am really 14! Answered Elizabeth"

Bobbie got out of the room and called Tony. Something was wrong indeed. Tony examined Elizabeth and ordered some tests for the next day. It seemed she had blocked out two years of her life.

Lucky was at the hospital the next day, waiting for the results of Elizabeth's tests. Nikolas had called him last night and told him what went on. Lucky was hurt that Liz didn't remember Nikolas either but, unlike with Lucky, she didn't threw him out.

"-Mrs Hardy? Said Tony"

Lucky and Audrey came closer to him. The old lady took Lucky's hand, to reassure him as much as to comfort her. Knowing he was there, and that he cared so much for Elizabeth was important to her.

"-There is nothing wrong with Elizabeth. Physically at least. Her brain is intact, no internal bleeding or anything. What we think happened is, while unconscious, her brain decided to get rid of the painful memories she had in the last two years. It decided to block her 15th year out of her life, with everything in it. Good and bad. At this point, we don't know if it's only temporary, or permanent.

-What can we do? Asked Audrey

-The only thing you can do is act normal. Don't push her to remember, but don't pretend nothing happened during those two years. Just carry on like would normally would.

-What about her rape? Asked Lucky

-She obviously blocked it for a reason, and that is not our place to make her remember. If she asks concrete questions, then answer. No lies, but if not, don't talk about it. If it comes back to her, it will come back on its own.

-Thank you Tony, said Audrey

-My pleasure"

Lucky knocked on her door, and waited for her to answer. She asked him to come on in. Liz was sitting on her bed, and she smiled at him.

Lucky sat on the chair next to her bed and was dying to take her hand. This would be difficult for him. Not being able to touch her, hold her close to his heart, would be real torture. He was having real problems with dealing with the fact that she didn't remember, or felt the love she had for him before the accident. He was confident that, even if her memory never came back she would fall in love with him again, cause they were meant to be, but in the mean time it would be tough.

"-I'm sorry about the way I acted yesterday. Doctor Jones told me that I lost my memory, but that you were a really good friend to me. She said. I'm sorry I don't remember you. We were really close?

-Elizabeth, we don't need to talk about this now if you don't want to. I understand you were scared seeing a stranger in your room, but that's all behind. Let's concentrate on getting you out of here shall we?"

Elizabeth smiled at this stranger, her best friend. It was weird. She never had a best friend before and now that she did, she didn't remember a thing about him. But something about him was familiar, though she couldn't put her finger on what.

"-Talk to me about us. I want to know what I can't remember. If you don't mind.

-I don't mind. Let's see, we met two years ago, when you showed up here. I still remember the comment you made about my name

-What was it?

-I said that my name was Lucky and you said "We'll see".

-That does sound like me! Elizabeth said, laughing

-At that time I was trying to go out with Sarah, but she was with my brother Nikolas.

-That is where I heard from you two! Sarah talked about you last time I talked to her. Well, that I remember.

-She talked about us? Cool. Anyway, at first, I wasn't too fond of you, you were too wild for me, but that all changed

-When?

-Around Valentine's day that year. We had a date and it changed. We slowly became best friends and we had a blast.

-Were we only best friends?"

Lucky was uncomfortable with her question. He didn't want to answer it. Not yet. It would scare her off, but he didn't want to lie to her either.

"-It depends what you mean. To me, you are everything. So, I guess that yeah, we were more than best friends.

-Were we lovers?"

Lucky choked at her question. He had forgotten how direct she was before the rape. He had to remember he was dealing with the old Elizabeth now.

"-No we were not Ms. Webber! He said, laughing. If you want to know the truth I will tell you, we were going steady, yeah, but we were not lovers.

-So I was your girl right?

-Yeah. Before the accident, we had been going out for nearly a year.

-I guess you wish to pick up where we left off right?"

There he was. Exactly where he was afraid he would be. She didn't love him. Well, she didn't know she did. How could they go back to what they had?

"-Elizabeth, listen to me. I would never pressure you to do stuff you don't want to or aren't ready for. I know you don't remember me, that to you right now I'm just some stranger with a really cute face, so don't worry about that now. I'll be your friend if you need one, I'll give you space if that is what you want. Your recovery is the only thing that matters to me right now.

-Was I in love with you?

-Yes. The ring you have on your right hand was my Christmas gift to you.

-Were you in love with me?

-I still am"

Elizabeth closer her eyes, and Lucky felt like punching himself. Why did he had to answer that? Liz was probably uneasy with him right now! Elizabeth was thinking about what he just said. Why couldn't she remember? Lucky was everything she ever wanted. He looked smart, he was handsome and from what he had told her she was really happy with him. Most of all, he was in love with her. Not Sarah. HER!

"-I think I better go. I'll come back later if you want? Lucky said"

But Elizabeth didn't want him to go. She wanted to learn more about their life "together". She had the feeling that, for the first time in her life, she was home with Lucky. He got up and she quickly took his hand.

"-Please don't go. Unless, you have something better to do than to keep a scared little girl company.

-I don't have anything more important than you Elizabeth. I want you to know that, even if you don't remember anything else. I just thought maybe you preferred I go.

-Why would I want you to go?

-I don't know!"

Tony came into Elizabeth's room at that moment. He told her that if everything was going this well the rest of the week, she would be back home before the week-end.

"-I have a question Doctor Jones, she said

-Sure Elizabeth, what is it?

-What day is it?"

Lucky and Tony started laughing. They were ready for a question about her health of recovery, not a little innocent question like this.

"-Today, it is August 10th, 1999.

-Thank you"

Lucky stayed with her all day. The played cards, watched TV, and he read a book while she took a nap. He was happy that, even if she didn't remember him, she still liked to spend time with him. He would make her love him again. After all, they were meant to be
