Elizabeth got up the next morning, with the sweet coffee aroma. She ran downstairs, to find her grandmother having breakfast outside. Elizabeth sat down with her, still have asleep, but amazingly happy to be alive, for the first time in her life. The world was finally smiling at her. When she left the Johnson's, (when she thought she left) she was sure to find Sarah and Audrey, not really happy to see her barging in their perfect little family, but instead she was living alone with her grandmother, who was really happy to be with her. Elizabeth had amazing friends, and she had Lucky. Thinking of him, a smile came to her face, and Audrey picked up on it.
"-I am so happy to see you smile Elizabeth. She said. I thought you would go back to how you were when you got here, angry and uncommunicative, but you actually seem happy! Does this have anything to do with Lucky?
-Gram, she said, embarrassed
-Now Elizabeth, I am not implying anything, I just happen to know that he got out of work yesterday so that you, Nikolas and Emily could do something with him. You used to be so close before your accident, I'm just happy to see that you didn't lose that closeness.
-Lucky's OK I guess
-OK? Elizabeth, this is me you are talking to!
-Fine he is better than OK! Liz answered, laughing. He is so amazing Gram, I mean, he knows I don't remember him, but still he is so patient with me, so gentle, so kind. I mean, how could he put up with some of the stuff he told me I did? I was such a brat!
-You were a troubled young woman, I'll give you that, but you cleaned up your act darling. And Lucky knows that. He loved you with all his heart, and I'm sure he still does. Even though you only have some kind of friendship feeling for him, he will not let you down. Now, I wasn't too fond of him at first, but he grew on me, and he will grow on you too
-Too late, she whispered
-What was that?
-Oh I said I bet"
Audrey smiled at Liz. She understood her comment too well. Elizabeth was falling for Lucky, and she was falling faster than she did the first time, two years ago. Audrey was afraid, at first, that Liz would shut herself from Lucky, but it was all the opposite, and Audrey couldn't be more pleased. Lucky was Lizzie's life-saver, he was his keeper and guardian angel.
Elizabeth could hear the thoughts her grandmother was having, cause she was kind of having the same ones. Lucky was so good to her. Whatever she had to pay to deserve him, it was all worth it, because no one had ever looked at her the way he did. No one, not even her parents, had taken care of her the way he did after her rape, and still did. He told her everything last night, while they were talking on the porch, after he had taken her home. Lucky told her how they lived on the street for a while, how they spent the summer in a boxcar, their first almost kiss, their first real kiss. He told her about how he sang my girl after she agreed to be his, officially. Never, even in her wildest dreams, she thought a guy would love her enough to sing her a song while they danced. Everything about him was the best, the best there was.
"-Where have I heard that before? She asked out loud
-What dear?
-Nothing. I just thought about something and I'm sure it's something from my past.
-Well, that's good! Maybe you are starting to get your memory back!
-I hope so, because living in total black-out, even though I have you and Lucky, is no fun. I can't meet anyone without asking myself who they are, and how well they know me!"
Elizabeth got up and went inside. Something was bugging her. She was about to remember something, she knew it, but what? And why? Did it have to do with the phrase she thought she knew? Liz went upstairs and put some music on. It had always helped her clear her head. She hadn't even chose the CD that she heard a tap on her window and she jumped. She went to see and came face to face with Lucky.
"-God, have you ever heard of a door? She asked
-Yeah I have but I don't like them, he answered with a smile. Actually, I didn't want your grandmother to know I'm here. I have something to tell you. I am going away for a couple of days.
-Away? Where?
-Well Sonny, one of my dad's friends, gives me errands to run sometimes and that is one of them. Last time he sent me to Canada, and this time I have to go to California.
-For how long?
-Two weeks, maybe less, I don't know, but I will be back before you have time to miss me, you'll see."
Elizabeth wanted to scream "what about me?" Desperation filled her heart, as she knew she could not keep him near. What if he didn't love her anymore when he came back? She was falling for him and he would forget about her!
"-So I'll see you when I get back? He asked
-Sure, have a safe trip! She said, her voice cracking up a little"
Lucky gave her a quick kiss and, before she knew it, he was gone the same way he came in, leaving Elizabeth, in tears, in the middle of her room. Why did she think he would be different than the others? Why did she think he would not abandon her like everyone else did in her life? At first she thought it was only a matter of time before he ran out on her, even though everyone else said otherwise, but this would prove them wrong. And she was heart-broken.
Elizabeth sat on her bed and took Boris in her arms, not able to stop crying. Now she really was alone, again. Why did she not listen to the voices in her head, when they said not to trust her heart to him? Served her right!
She got up and took her tape in her collection, and shoved it in her radio. She was angry and had to listen to something, to take her mind off of Lucky. He wasn't even gone out of Port Charles yet and she already missed him. Probably because she knew she wouldn't see him for a while.
Liz wasn't even in her bed that she heard a guitar fill the room. This wasn't professional, it was homemade. What the hell was that? Her heart stopped when she recognized the voice and she listened to the words, standing in the middle of her room, with Boris in one hand.
"As you kneel besides your bed tonight
Keep a little prayer for me insight
And know that I will be there when you call
Know that I will catch you if you might fall
Elizabeth, go to sleep
I wanna watch you breathe
I wanna feel God's peace
All I want is this, Elizabeth
Elizabeth you need to get some rest
So lay your head down upon my chest
Release all your fears and regrets
It's not your fault life's a see through dress
Elizabeth, the night is gone
The sun has come
It's all been done
And all I want is this, Elizabeth
As you kneel beside you bed tonight
Keep a little prayer for me insight
Elizabeth"
She could not believe her ears. What was that? Lucky? He wrote a song for her? It wasn't possible! That was probably a song he heard somewhere and thought he would be cute to give it to her, he couldn't have write this. It was too amazing.
She rewound it again, and listened to it. Why couldn't she remember the situation where she first heard it? It must have been intense. The phone rang at this moment and she picked it up, all surprise to hear Sarah.
"-Hey Liz, how are you? She asked
-I'm good, and you?"
Elizabeth was uneasy talking to her sister. Even though everything was fine between them when she left, according to Lucky, but, to Liz, they were still at odds. They talked for a while, and Elizabeth called Gram. She heard her grandmother knock a couple of minutes late and barged in, all excited.
"-Sarah's coming back next week to finish her school here. Isn't that wonderful?"
