CHAPTER 28

OK, she left him a while ago, why was he still miserable? Two weeks had passed since she left him in the car, heartbroken and lost and he was still trying to make sense of it all. Lying in the middle of the yard, he was looking at the sky, both his hands behind his head, watching the stars slowly move. He took his decision. He wouldn’t fight anymore. What was the use? She was scared of being with him, she made it very clear she didn’t want him in her life anymore. His daughter and son were married, they didn’t need him, they were even talking about having a family, he would only be in the way. Time had come to move on. He always wanted to go back to traveling, maybe it was time he did. See the world, now that he was an adult, and not a kid on the run, would be an interesting journey.

Now that his decision was made, Robert went to the house and packed his bag. He didn’t need a lot of things with him, his guitar, his wallet and a couple of pictures. He would buy what he needed on the way. He was glad Kiara and Lucky were out, they wouldn’t see him leave and try to stop him. He left them a note, and left.

Around dinner time, when Lucky and Kiara came home, they found it silent, with a big envelop on the table.

"-I wonder where dad is. Kiara said softly

-Well, this has our name on it, maybe it’s from him"

"Dear Kiara and Lucky,

By the time you read this, I’ll probably be half way around the world. I decided to take an extended vacation. Symbiotic is run by my Vice-president, and I know the company is in good hands.

I can’t give you the name of the hotels I’ll stay in, or the itinerary, because I don’t know yet. I’ll probably just go where my heart feels like, or rather my head, because my heart is still in Port Charles, as it always been. Don’t worry about me, I’ll keep in touch, with letters and post cards. I’ll also call once a month, to know what happens in Port Chucks. If something happens, contact Walter at Symbiotic, he’ll know how to reach me. All right, I won’t tell you how to reach me because I know Lucky will be on the first plane to bring me back to Port Charles, and I’m not coming back. At least not until my heart is healed. Whenever that will be.

I know you guys don’t really know what happened between Elizabeth and I, and I don’t want you to ask her, so I’ll tell you the basics. She things basically that I am the reason she was miserable all those years, and that I only bring her pain, and to this point, I actually have to agree with her. The troubles I brought her are far more consistent than the joy I could ever have given her. I think the only thing I did right by her was you Lucky, and I’m grateful she had you all those years.

Time to leave, my cab is honking. Lucky, take care of Kiara. I’m leaving you the house to do as you please, but I beg you don’t burn it down before I came back. I’ll take plenty of pictures and Lucky, if you see your mother and she asks about me, please send her my love"

Robert

"-He left? Just like that? Asked Kiara after Lucky finished reading the letter

-Seems like it. Can’t say I’m mad at him, but I am sad

-He could’ve waited until we told him the good news"

Kiara had just learned she was pregnant, and she couldn’t wait to tell her father, but now he was gone, and he would know it only late. They already knew if it was a boy he would carry on the Lucas Lorenzo Spencer tradition, and if it was a girl, they had decided on Laura, like her great-grandmother. Kiara couldn’t wait to tell her father, and now he was gone, leaving them alone, heartbroken. He left like a burglar, like he wasn’t a member of the family anymore because Elizabeth was too stupid to realize how childish she was acting. This would take a while for Kiara to forgive her mother-in-law.

A couple of weeks went by when Lucky received the first letter. He ran home and tore the envelop open, before he smiled at Kiara. He sat at the table and Kiara put her hands on his shoulder while he opened the sheet of paper.

"Dear children,

All right, I know it’s been a while, but was I busy? Actually, I was. You can now say your father is a mountain climber. I took a guide and climbed a small mountain in the Swiss Alps. Before you go nuts on me Kiara, it was perfectly safe and I loved it. Although I never thought I would be afraid of heights but I was. Guess I’m getting softer in my old age.

I included a couple of pictures for you to see I wasn’t lying, and if you need to reach me, I’ll be in Paris three weeks from the date on this letter, and I’ll be down at a little motel called "Le Paradis", the address is below if you need to send me something, but I have to warn you. If you show up here, I’ll kick your butt back to the states. I’m happy, don’t mess it up

I’ve also seen England, and I hate their accent. They seem so sophisticated, and I’m not, so I wasn’t feeling at home. Also, they wouldn’t let me see the Queen, so besides Big Ben, what else is there, you know? I have a clock at home, why stay in this snobbish Country?

After Paris, next stop, an African safari. Who knows, I might fall in love with the daughter of a chief and have to have my nose pierced or something. All jokes aside, I am going on an African Safari, so I’ll write if the lions didn’t decide to take me for lunch.

Love, Robert

Lucky was laughing at his father’s letter and felt better to know he was having a good time and he seemed to be forgetting about Elizabeth since he didn’t talk about her once. In a way, Lucky was happy, because he wouldn’t have to tell his father Elizabeth was pregnant again, with Nikolas’ baby. That would truly kill Robert. But now when he would learn it, he would also have his grandson or granddaughter to help him up again.

Ever since he learned the news, Lucky was at odd with his mother again. How could she vow her love to his father then turn around on him like that? It was a childish reaction and he didn’t hide his feelings, it wasn’t his style. When she told him about the pregnancy, Lucky totally refused to see his mother from now on, saying he only had 8 members in his family now. His father, his wife, his baby, his Aunt Lesley Lu, his brother, his sister, his grandfather and his grandmother. Elizabeth went home, heartbroken to know she was gaining a child, but lost her first born in the process.
