Kiara’s breath left her body. Lucky? Her brother?
"-How can that be dad? She asked, not wanting to know but having to"
Robert took her in his arms and held her tight, never wanting to let go. He kissed her forehead and Kiara felt something wet fall on it. A tear. What did he have to tell her that was so horrible? She never saw him cry before.
"-When I was young, my parents were on the run from the mob. Frank Smith wanted them dead. We lived under hundreds of identities and thousand places. Finally, when I was 11, they decided to stand up to him. We moved to Port Charles to be with my father’s family, my aunts Ruby and Bobbie, along with my mother’s sister and mother. But their enemies didn’t like that. Things they did before I was born wasn’t buried yet. I met this girl, Elizabeth Webber. I just fell in love with her. Hard. We decided to get married in our 17th year. It was the day before the wedding, she called me and told me she was being held hostage. I rushed to the address and I tried to get her out of there. I struggled with a the man who was threatening to shoot her, and the gun went off. I blacked out and I woke up I was in an hospital room. There was this woman by my bed and she kept calling me Robert. She told me her name was Montana and she and her dad found me. I was drowning. They rescued me and took me to the town hospital. It seems that I had floated a while. I was far from Port Charles. I didn’t remember anything about my past. I didn’t even remember my own name. They said they called me Robert because that was the only thing I had on me. A piece of paper with Robert’s name on it. They took me to their homes and I fell in love with Montana. She was your mother. My life saver. I still didn’t remember anything by the time you were born. My memory came back all of a sudden, I don’t even know how it happened. By that time, you were 13 months old. Montana was dead, so was your grandfather. I decided to go back to Port Charles to Elizabeth. I had to show them I was still alive, that Lucky wasn’t dead. When I arrived, I looked for Elizabeth and found her in the park, playing with two young baby boys. My heart sank low. I went to City Hall and found a marriage license made out to Nikolas Cassadine to wed Elizabeth Webber. I was crushed. The girl who pledge her love to me forever married my brother three months after my "death". But I was determined to stay in town and get my life back. I may have lost Elizabeth, she had a husband and two children by him, but I had you, and I wanted you to know your father’s family. I was on my way to see my father at his club, in the middle of the afternoon, when I had a bad feeling and I turned around to go back to the hotel. I said to myself I would go the next day. That night, you were asleep in your playpen, I turned on the TV and they said on the news the club Luke’s went up in smoke at around 3 O’clock in the afternoon and they thought it was a mob hit, since my dad’s partner was a mobster. There were 3 victims killed in the fire. My father’s friend Mike, a waitress and a delivery guy. I closed the TV and walked to the bathroom. I looked in the mirror and saw a man. A man who wasn’t Lucky Spencer. I had been disfigured and had needed plastic surgery, so I didn’t look like Lucky anymore. That’s when I made the hardest decision of my life. Lucky was dead for good. I was Robert Jackson to stay. I wouldn’t be involved in that world of hatred anymore. I wouldn’t risk my only child’s life to be with my family. You were my family Kiara, you were the only one that mattered. I woke you up and drove out of Port Charles. If that was what I had to do to keep you safe, then so be it. They had already moved on, so what they didn’t know didn’t hurt them."
Robert was crying in the arms of Kiara. She was crying too. This must have been awful for her father to go through, seeing the love of his life, knowing she married his brother, knowing she forgot about him so easily.
"-But dad, something’s wrong here. Lucky told me his mother told him Lucky Spencer was his father. She told him all about you.
-My mother said I’m that boy’s father. She must have been pregnant when I was "killed". If I had known he was my son when I saw him in the park, I wouldn’t have walked away from him. But he isn’t my son per se. He wasn’t raised by me. He doesn’t need me in his life now.
-Why did you change so much? From what Lucky’s mom told him, you were a warm, funny, loving man. Now, you are just cold. Don’t get me wrong, I love you dad, and I love the life I had with you, but if you are that Lucky Spencer, why didn’t you enjoy life more?
-Lucky Spencer was dead. Robert became everything Lucky wasn’t. Robert is just the opposite of Lucky, don’t you see that? Lucky lived for fun, Robert lives for work. Lucky needed people around him to be happy, Robert just needs his daughter. As long as Robert was the opposite of Lucky, there was no danger of being retraced. Lucky loved music, he lived for it. When did you hear me listen to a song or watch a movie?
-Don’t tell me you were happy like that dad. Don’t tell me you liked being so cold and different of your real nature
-I did what had to be done to keep you and I safe baby girl. I’m not saying it didn’t hurt me to always call you Kiara, not show you how I can burp the alphabet, show you all about music and life, teach you everything my dad taught me. But I also wanted you alive.
-Why did you come back to Port Charles then dad?
-Because PC always was my home. I heard, 2 years ago, that Faison died. This was the best time to come back. I did my best to keep a low profile, going to work and come back here, never going out not to run into people Lucky knew. But please understand. I wouldn’t trade one minute of my life with you, for a lifetime of Lucky and Elizabeth. I don’t think about the past, or what could’ve been if I hadn’t been shot, because it led me to you"
Kiara held on to him for dear life, knowing what kind of man her father really was, cursing herself for what she thought of him when he wouldn’t let her go out. He gave everything up for her, his life, his love, his personality, everything that mattered to him. He even gave up his son.
Kiara’s thought wandered to Lucky. They were brother and sister? Wasn’t it illegal for her to feel the way she did about him? Wasn’t it pure incest? The room started spinning around her and she collapsed in her father’s arms.
Lucky was waiting at his mother’s door for her to open it. He had to tell her his father was alive and in Port Charles. He wanted her to hear it from him and not from a stranger. Finally she opened the door and let him in. She looked happy to see him and only then the similarities between him and his father hit him.
His father’s real name was Lucas Lorenzo. His name was Lucas Lorenzo. His father had a half brother a year and a half older than he was. His half-brother was a year and a half younger than he was. His father had a baby sister named Lesley Lu, everyone called her Lulu. He had a baby sister named Lu Ann, everyone called her either Lulu or just plain Lu. His father left home after he realized something about his family he couldn’t live with, he left home after he really realized how his mother danced on his father’s grave for marrying his brother so early after his death. His father loved with a passion, so did he. His father had an obsession with music and he told his mother how he felt with a song. So did he for Kiara. This was just too creepy.
Lucky sat on the couch and looked at his mother. How to tell her? Suddenly his step-father, his uncle walked in and took Lucky’s mother in his arms. Lucky turned his head away, before he sighed.
"-Lucky, said Nikolas. What brings you here?
-I came to talk to my mother, is that a crime?
-Of course not. You are welcome here anytime, you know that. I’ll let you two talk. Elizabeth, I have to go to Windermere, I’ll be back later.
-All right, I’m not going anywhere so I should be here.
-I love you. Nikolas said and Lucky turned away
-I know. Say hi to Stefan for me
-I will. Bye Lucky
-Bye Nikolas"
Elizabeth sat on the couch and gently passed a hand on his face. Lucky knew he had always been her favorite, even though she never acted on it. She loved Stefan and Lu Ann just as much, but Lucky was special to her. She would spend hours talking to him about his father, how they loved each other, how he died to save her, how he would be proud of his son if he knew about him. What hurt Lucky the most now was to know it was all a lie. His father knew about him and he didn’t care. He turned his back on him and took Kiara home. He didn’t care to know Lucky was a straight A student, a brilliant musician, a good kid in general. But what hurt him the most, was the fact that his father didn’t care he had a son. Plain and simple.
"-You look so serious Lucky. What’s wrong? Did something happened with Kiara? She broke up with you?"
Lucky, for the first time that day, let the tears freely run down his face. Elizabeth put her arm around his shoulder and the boy put his head on her shoulder. This had to be done, but he just needed a minute to regain control of his feelings to do it. He sat down straight again and looked at his mother with a weak smile.
"-It’s a good thing you are sitting down mom. I have to tell you something and it won’t be pretty. Grandma Laura saw Robert, Kiara’s father and there was something about him she recognized, so I took her to their house. She met Robert and they got into an argument. She wanted him to admit something and she succeed.
-What was it?
-Mom, Lucky’s alive. Grandma Laura saw it in his eyes and he admitted it. He’s been alive all this time"
