Elizabeth heard someone walking in the hallway. It was probably Laura and she decided to get up. Lucky was still sleeping, smiling. She kissed him gently and went downstairs. Luke was in the kitchen, making coffee. When he saw Liz, alone, he smiled at her. She smiled back and sat down. Lulu arrived and jumped in Liz's arms. Elizabeth smile and kissed her head.
"-Did you sleep well? Asked Luke
-Very well, thank you. And you?
-As always. There is something differennt about you this morning. You're glowing.
-Must be love
-No it's not that. You look like you juust woke up, after a long, long sleep.
-I feel that way. I feel like I'm finallly from a really dark place."
Luke smiled at her. He knew what was the change she experienced. He was proud of his son, and he knew Lucky would be proud when he saw Elizabeth's face. She was really beautiful. Not that she wasn't before, but she was sad. Now she wasn't sad anymore. Laura walked in the kitchen, watching her husband and daughter-in-law in a silent conversation. She could tell they understood each other, but didn't know about what. Lucky walked in, his hair all spiked, and he was still in his pajama pants. He looked like he spent the night on the lawn. Liz laughed when she saw him. It reminded her of the first night they spent in the same bed. He said hi to his parents, and gentle kissed Liz. Laura saw, looking in her son's eyes, that he would always love Elizabeth, just as she would always love Luke, and that Luke would always love her.
"-You look beautiful this morning cupcake, Lucky said to Liz, while Laura and Luke smiled at each other.
-Oh please, I just got up. You look likke you spent the night on the roof
-Rough night son? Asked Luke with a smiile on his face
-Kinda, Elizabeth spent the night hogginng the covers. Answered Lucky"
Liz's fist met Lucky's shoulder and he frowned.
"-Ouch, that hurts, he said, rubbing his other shoulder, making everybody laugh"
Laura reminded Liz that Audrey was counting on her and Lucky for lunch at the outback. Elizabeth finished her breakfast and went upstairs to get ready. She had to go see Emily, before meeting her grandmother. Lucky had to go see Jason and they would meet at Mac's restaurant for lunch. She was combing her hair when Lucky walked in. He really was looking tired, but he smiled at her and took her in his arms, smelling her hair. Even after spending a year in his arms, Elizabeth's heart was still missing a beat when he was holding her. She was betting it was still like that for Lucky's parents.
He got dressed, wearing what she loved the most, a pair of black jeans, with his tee- shirt all tucked in, and a shirt on it.
"-You need a ride to Emily's? He asked
-Well, if you want to drop me off, I wouuldn't say no
-Of course I'll drop you off, and I'll ppick you up too, after seeing Jason. I want to be sure he can hold my job for when we'll be back around Christmas."
He kissed her tenderly, and they went downstairs. Lucky borrowed Luke's truck, and went out. The kiss they shared in front of the Quartermaine's lasted at least quarter of an hour. Reginald opened the door, smiled at Liz and said "hello Mrs. Spencer". Elizabeth laughed and Reginald told her Emily was waiting in the family room. When Emily saw her friend she got up and, without saying a word, held her. What happened with Tom a year ago really got them close.
The girls talked about the wedding, Em's new boyfriend, school, and everything. Emily finally asked Liz if she had slept with Lucky yet. Elizabeth smiled at her friend and nodded her head.
"-Last night. Oh Em, it was so wonderful, so magical! Do you and your man...
-No not yet
-Who is he By the way? Do I know him?
-NIKOLAS?"
Emily's grin went all the way up to her ears. Elizabeth was so happy for Emily, but she wondered why Nikolas didn't say anything last night, or all the times they spoke on the phone.
"-Well, I asked him to be the one to tell you. I was so happy when he asked me out! Of course Grandfather had a heart attack, but I didn't care.
-I see nothing's changed here?
-It never will. But if it did changed, I'd probably miss it"
Monica came in the room at that moment and, when she saw Liz, she smiled at her and hugged her. It was congratulations all over the place as Ned, A.J. Edward, Lila and Alan came in the room. Emily wanted to take Liz to her room, as the doorbell rang. It was Lucky and Nikolas. They had pulled up in the driveway at the same time. It was bizarre to see the two best friends kiss the two brothers. Emily then took Lucky in her arms. She was so happy for him and Liz. They were so cute together, but then Ned got a hold of Lucky and got him in the family room. Emily, Elizabeth and Nikolas went with him, as he received the 32 dos and don'ts for married life. He was looking at Elizabeth, begging her with his eyes to get him out of there. Elizabeth said that Audrey was waiting for them, so they actually let him go. In the truck, Lucky and Liz started talking at the same time, just like if they didn't see each other for a long time.
"-I missed you so much, Lucky said with a smile
-I missed you too, although we have beenn separated less than we usually are from school
-It's not the same anymore, he said, jusst before blushing all the way up to his ears.
-I know, and you don't need to be embarrrassed about it baby blue
-My dad knew
-I noticed. He said I looked beautiful this morning. Peaceful
-You are beautiful, but he is right. Yoou look like you are glowing
-That's exactly what he said to me!
-Really?
-I swear!
-Great minds think alike!"
He parked in front of the restaurant but before coming in he held close to his heart. They stayed like that for at least ten minutes, in the parking lot, without saying anything. Then, without even talking, they backed away from each other, walking in hand in hand. They got in, and heard;
"-SURPRISE"
Everybody was there. Laura, Luke, Leslie Lu, Bobbie, Jackie, Jerry, Lucas, Carly, Jason, Michael, Sonny, Mike, Mac, Felicia, Dara, Marcus, Ted Murty, Audrey. At that time, Emily, Nikolas, Monica, Ned, Alexis, Edward, Lila, A.J., Alan and Reginald walked through the door. Lucky started to laugh, when he understood that the lecture he received was just to stall them a little.
Everybody came to congratulate them. Lucky was all smiles, because he knew Elizabeth wanted a party. He then learned it was Audrey's idea. He was shocked. Such a thing coming from his parents wouldn't surprise him but from Audrey? When she held him he thanked her again and again. Audrey replied that it was all worth it just to see the sadness leave Elizabeth's eyes.
Lucky's eyes started to fill with water when he realized that Ruby wasn't there. She had passed away nearly a year ago, but today, he wanted her to be here, to be proud of what Elizabeth had become. Ruby put up with a lot while Liz was working for her, but Lucky knew she was now their guardian angel.
Elizabeth and Lucky were dancing together, alone in the world, when they heard murmurs in the crowd. Liz lifted her head from Lucky's shoulder and watched the door and she said;
"-Dad!"
Lucky looked in the same direction, and saw a man and a woman walked in, and Sarah was following. He sensed Elizabeth tensing up at the sight of her sister. He realized she was still insecure about his feeling for the oldest Webber girl. Not knowing what to do, Elizabeth was staying in Lucky's arms, although they had stopped dancing. Jeff came to his daughter and opened his arms, and suddenly, Lucky was alone, but he was happy. He knew that, even if she didn't say anything, Elizabeth always suffered of the indifference her parents showed her, and now, to see them here, was the best gift she could ever had. Lucky left the dance floor and went to find Liz. Time to meet the in- laws.
