Medaille d'Honneur Commemorative
du Prince Philippe d'Araucanie

This Medaille d'Honneur Commemorative was created by Prince Philippe d'Araucanie, sixth head of the Royal House of Araucania, on July 2, 1965. The third head of the Royal House of Araucania, King Antoine II, established the precedent for this medal with his own Medaille d'Honneur, created in 1902. The medal illustrated here is gilt. Apparently, the medal has also been struck in silver, though the author hasn't seen a silver example. The author does have examples of miniatures of this medal in both gilt and silver.

Awarding this medal is authorized by the Auspice Stella, whose current president is Baron Raoul de Lavalette. The medal was sculpted by Mme. Hebert-Coeffin, an officer of the Legion of Honor and an artist for the Paris Mint. The striking of this medal was due to the initiative of Count Pierre Castang de Queilen-Cura. The blue, white and green stripes of the ribbon are taken from the flag of the kingdom.

The obverse of the medal bears a portrait of Prince Philippe d'Araucanie in profile. The reverse of the medal bears the Prince's coat of arms.
