Kaewyn Seind

Kaewyn Seind was born in Bandar Eban, in Arad Doman. Her parents were assassinated before she turned 1 year old, so she was sent to live with her aunt Dala. As she became older, Kaewyn’s aunt taught her all about the ways of the Domani women, and although Kaewyn enjoyed the teaching, and her life in Bandar
Eban, she always knew that her life should be something more.

One day, at the age of fourteen, Kaewyn was out in the streets, on one of her walks, when several teenage boys come over to taunt her. Kaewyn continued to walk, ignoring the people behind her. Suddenly, one of them hit the side of her head with something, hoping to knock her out it didn’t work. Kaewyn felt the anger and pain rising in her, and without even thinking, she channeled. All her life, she had heard stories about the Aes Sedai although she never dreamed she would meet one, let alone become one. Kaewyn had always known, or rather, thought she had known that she would become a merchant like her aunt
Dala, and her father and mother.

Kaewyn had no idea of what she did, except that a blast of something struck the boy who had hit her. Then, the rest were lifted off their feet and tossed into the air and when they landed, they were sprawled helplessly.
After her ordeal, Kaewyn’s face was a mask of pure terror and horror at what she had seen, so no one doubted her when she said that she hadn’t done it. It was always assumed that there had been an Aes Sedai or Asha’man in the city that day, that had seen what had happened, and rescued Kaewyn from a distance. Only Kaewyn herself knew the truth.

Over the next year, Kaewyn found as many books as she could on Aes Sedai, and the One Power, and kept them hidden in her room. No one noticed any change in her, on the outside, but Kaewyn knew what was happening.

Suddenly, she was never sick anymore, no matter how bad the disease, or how many people had it, and she had developed immunity to everything. In a small room in the attic that Kaewyn had claimed for her study, she tended to several sick and injured animals, and slowly taught herself to channel.

Her self-teaching taught her many things. Like how to use the Power, and distinguish each of the threads. Kaewyn learned how to heal anything and she discovered that, without moving, she was able to light her fire, lamps, and candles, just with a miniscule amount of fire. She was now using the Power to get her chores done faster, and life became instantly easier. She was aiding her Aunt Dala in her trade by using Illusion to make everything seem better and nicer than it really was. She had found a way to make the illusion stick on certain things so that even if people touched it, they would not know the difference.

Now fifteen, Kaewyn had more freedom than ever, and she had just fallen asleep after a long day when she was awoken by a scream. Grabbing a coat to cover her nightdress, she hurried down the stairs in the direction of her aunt Dala’s room. She stopped outside the door, and listened, there was not a sound coming
from within.

Cautiously, she crept around the corner into the room. Her aunt was lying on the floor, clutching a scrap of paper. Kaewyn checked the woman’s pulse, and then used the Power to determine what was wrong. The woman was dead, without a mark on her. Kaewyn screamed, and screamed, and screamed. She did not know how long she lay beside the body of her dead aunt crying and screaming, but when the sun started to shine through the windows, she slowly stood up. It was then when she remembered the slip of paper. Bending down, she slid it out of her aunt’s hand, and read it.

I am coming for the girl tomorrow night. She gasped, and the paper dropped to the floor. She knew that she had to get away!

Kaewyn hurried back up to her room. She knew she had time, but not much, so she began to pack hurriedly. In her packs she stuffed most of her dresses, even though she knew she would need new ones when she reached her destination. On top of one she added all of her undergarments and nightclothes. In another pack she crammed in most of her books, and all of her money. Dala had paid her well for her work, so Kaewyn had a lot of money. She dumped several coins in a smaller pouch, which she set on her bed. Hurriedly, Kaewyn dressed, then she grabbed the pouch of money, and her two packs, and hurried downstairs again. In her aunt’s room, she took all of the jewellery and small items that had been left to her by her mother, and then she grabbed her father’s journal out of a drawer. Before she dashed out of the room towards the stables, Kaewyn channeled a small bit of fire to burn the paper. She knew it was time to leave. She kissed her aunts cheek, said a quick prayer for her soul, and then she was gone. In minutes, Kaewyn was mounted on her white mare, and traveling out of the city. She stopped for a moment and bought some food that should last her most of the trip, and then she was off again.

She had no plan, only the name of the place where she was leaving, and the name of the place where she must end up. One the ride, Kaewyn felt herself drifting out of her body, then back in again, only to find she was in an entirely different place than she had been. As her last drift came crashing to an end, she found herself at her destination. A trip that should have taken several days, had only taken hours.

Cautiously, she pushed her mare forwards. The White Tower, her final destination, where she was to become an Aes Sedai, and find whatever murdered her family.
