Mierelle Copan

Mierelle Copan is approximately one hundred and fifty years of age, but looks to have not reached thirty yet. She is sitter at present for the Gray Ajah, but only under duress and will be happier when she can hand this task over to another. She is small and slender in figure with rich brown eyes and dark hair. She has a pleasant and friendly manner, but still keeps her own council, a lesson she learnt early on. Many find her easy to talk to in confidence.

Mierelle Copan was not quite sixteen years old when she ran away from home to join the White Tower. She was the middle child of the seven children of Wil and Mariam Copan. Her father was a prosperuos farmer from the north of Barleon in Andor.

When she was twelve their farming community was visited by a woman. They whispered she was a ‘Tar Valon witch’, but the children were not afraid and would often gather and listen to her tales of far away places and adventures.

It was this woman – who never gave her name – who told Mierelle that she should go to the tower to train for she had the ‘spark’ within her. Mierelle didn’t quite understand what the ‘spark’ was but found that she liked the idea of going someplace new and learning new things. For if anything Mierelle hungered for knowledge, loving what little she could learn of history and literature.

Unfortunately her parents disagreed. After many heated arguments, they forbade Mierelle to even mention the Tower or Tar Valon and it’s ‘witches’. From time to time however, they would catch her day dreaming over the dairying, or elbow deep in bread dough and try to beat the notion out of her. They never succeeded.

When one night whilst in bed she over heard them talking about suitable husbands who would ‘knock this nonsense out of Mierelle once and for all’ she was horrified. She knew those that they talked of and they were all large, horrid brutes that had so far been unsuccessful at finding a wife. Gathering together enough of her fathers coin, and a few bits of clothing and her good stout shoes and warm wool clock, she sneaked from the farm in the early hours of the morning determined never to return no matter what.

On arriving at the Tower she became a novice, working hard and still finding time to read. Unlike the other novices she didn’t go down to the practice yards to sigh over the warders in training, preferring the library. She was a novice for two years and an accepted for four.

She chose the Gray Ajah, learning much and teaching lessons on the various nations whilst still an accepted.

After she was raised to the shawl Mierelle journeyed to many places, often incognito in her work for the Gray Ajah. A number of treaties were overseen by her at various times. She was one of only a handful of sisters who survived Tarmon Gai’don, losing her warder Draven in the process and saw the destruction of both towers. After which whilst others rebuilt the towers, Mierelle went out in search of those who could channel or be taught, bringing in what records show to be the most girls any Aes Sedai managed to find after Tarmon Gai’don.
