Slave Rules

The following are rules and expectations of all slaves entering Townsend Keep.

First Girl Expectations and Duties

Slaves own nothing, so the title of first girl does not give the slave the power of ownership.  It is well known that a slave owns nothing, not even her name. Being a first girl means that the girl is above the other slaves as far as delegating duties and chores.  Also assuring the slaves keep up on all orders given by the Free. It is not the place of the first girl to punish a slave however if she must she is just as apt to use a switch over an unruly slave as the owner per the Owner's orders of course as even the first girl does not do anything without permission.  After all even she is only slave and owned property. Be prepared to obey without question the orders of the first girl.  The first girl is responsible in ensuring that all things run smoothly to allow the Owners and Keepers able to deal with more important business instead of the meanial tasks of the slaves.

"Please no, Mistress", begged Tafa.  "I am not "mistress"", said Phoebe.  "I, too, am only slave".  It is natural enough, in the circumstances, for Tafa to have addressed Phoebe as "Mistress".  As Tafa was currently subject to us, and Phoebe was with us, this put Phoebe in a position of de facto priority to her.  For example, in a group of female slaves, for example, in a pleasure gardens, a fortress or a tavern, there will usually be a girl appointed First Girl.  Indeed, if there is a large number of slaves, there are sometimes hierarchies of "first girls", lower-level girls reporting to higher-level first girls, and so on.  The lower-level slaves will commonly address their first girl as "Mistress".  Thus, in some situations, the same girl may be first girl to certain girls and be subordinated herself to another, on a higher level, who she will address as "Mistress".  Sometimes a hierarchy is formed in which girls are ranked in such a manner that each must address the girls above her as "Mistress".  More commonly, it is only the lowest slave, usually the newest slave, who must do this with all the others, whereas the others will address only their first girl as "Mistress", and, of course, any free woman whom they might, to their risk, or peril, encounter.  Technically the lowest of free women, of the lowest caste, is immeasurably above even the highest of slaves, even the preferred slave of a Ubar.  Sometimes a Ubar will even have his preferred slave serve in a low-caste hovel one day a year, under the command, and switch, of a low-caste free woman, performing her labors, and such, that she may be reminded that she is truly, when all is said and done, only a slave, as much as the lowest of the kettle-and-mat girls in the most wretched of hovels, crowed about the walls of a small city.  "The decision as to the dicipline of a slave will be made by the masters", I reminded Phoebe.  "Yes, Master", said Phoebe.  "Forgive me, Master". When more than one slave girl stands in a relationship of slave girls, as when they serve in the same shop or house, or adorn the same rich man's pleasure gardens, it is common for the master, or masters, to appoint a "first girl".  Her authority is then to the other girls as is that of the master.  This tends to reduce squabbling.  The first girl is usually, though not always, the favorite of the master.  There is usually much competition to be first girl.  First girls can be cruel and petty but commonly, they attempt to govern with intelligence and justice.  They know that another girl, at the master's whim, may become first girl, and that they themselves may then be under her almost absolute power. The suspension of brush-and-comb privileges is also used, upon occasion, by the first girls as a disciplinary measure, within the coffle.  Other disciplinary measures practiced among girls themselves involve such things as bonds, the control of rations and switchings.  Girls, thus, under the control of first girls, reporting to the masters, commonly keep a good order among themselves.  All, of course, including the first girls, are in all things subject, ultimately, to the total authority of the master. I realized then that she was first girl in the camp, and that I must obey her, that she had been enpowered to set me tasks and duties.  Suddenly I feared her.  Before I had looked down upon her.  Now I trembled.  It was she who held the switch over me.  Before I had generally obeyed her only when men were present.  Now I realized I must, without question, take slave instructions from her and discharge swiftly and well whatever meanial duties she might place upon me.  She would command me.  She held the switch.  I would obey.  She was first girl. As you enter Townsend Keep know that Our first girl is shornatia_MB.  She has been delegated by the Owners and Keepers here at the Keep.  If you need assistance in what to do or what duties that need doing or what Free is in need of service ask her and follow her directions as she answers to Us and will be held accountable for all of her actions.

Slave Rules of Townsend Keep

Rules of slaves entering Townsend Keep are as follows. 1.   First and foremost above all else a slave will respect ALL Free that are in the Home at all times. 2.   Slaves will beg enterance into the Keep and receive permission to enter before doing so. 3. While you are in the Keep you will not be idle, you will offer service to the Free.  If none are in need of service then ask either one of the Keepers or first girl shornatia (tia) if there is anything that needs to be done around the Keep. 4.   You will beg for everything as all slaves should. 5.   Remember if you are at a Free's feet, you will beg to greet, speak or do anything. 6.   If you are here to observe, then you will ask if you may before entering the Keep, do not assume that you can just enter.  We do allow new slaves to be here to learn but permission must be granted from the Owners or Keepers first. 7.   A slave's main purpose is to be pleasing.  we expect this at all times pleasing mannerisms from any slave that visits our Home. 8.   Do not expect praise, as you do what you do for your heart not for the praise of the Free.  They are not here for your satisfaction; in fact it is the other way around as you are here for the Free.  If we choose not to acknowledge you, be happy you are even allowed to be in the presence of the Free altogether. 9.   Drive bys will not be tolerated. 10. Enjoy what and who you are, let it flow from you and enjoy the Keep as a place to express your soul and learn to grow as you do.  If you follow the above and adhere to what we desire and demand, your lot here at the Keep will be a joyous one. Serve well beasts with heart and soul.
