Silver Lake Sand Dunes April '00 |
We spent Friday night at my roomate Tim's cottage in Coldwater. As you can see from the first pic it was cold and in fact had snowed overnight! Only about an inch in Coldwater but around 4" in Kalamazoo which made for an interesting drive. But to our surprise when we got to the dunes there was no snow on them! Apparently they were warm enough so that most of the snow melted from them except for where it drifted up as you can see in some of the following pics. But there was a little snow at our campsite and it was a COLD trip with daytime temps in the 40's with a cold wind and temps in the 20's at night but thankfully the wind had slackened off. |

In these next few pictures you can see the snow burried under the sand, it was like a brick wall if you hit it. The Cherokee had its front bumper bashed up good, but my ARB held tough like I knew it would. I love that thing. :-) |

But perhaps the most interesting part of the whole trip was seeing this Buick, yes I said BUICK, out on the dunes. I can't believe that thing made it out there over all the whoop de doo's you have to traverse at the entrance. |
