| Alton Towers, Staffordshire This is just a fantastic park that has everything for the family and for thrill seekers, it has great record breaking rides and some of the best theming in the world, it even has its own £60m themed Hotel within the park. There are lots of different zones around the park from Ug-land to X-sector, and they all have great rides and brilliant theming, especially in the X-sector where all the rides are themed as something from space and they have brilliant space buildings and horrifying rides to match. The park was owned by a business man who took control for quite some time, until the Tussaud's company bought it and started to invest millions into the park and convert It into the best theme park in Britain, they added new rides and new areas and even added a Cable-car ride and a huge Monorail system from the car-park. As the attendance of the park grew each year, the park started to upgrade other facilities and change the logo; they even changed the park's motto and replaced the theme music. The park is situated in the heart of the Derbyshire dales and is built around an old Castle called Alton Manor, the manor used to be a home to the Earl of Alton and was left ruined for many years until it was restored after the war, it was then bought as a visitor attraction in 1981 and they added a few rides including the Corkscrew. They then added other rides like the Log Flume and looked after the gardens, they turned a car park into a newly themed area called Catanga Canyon witch included a River Rapids, other areas and rides were slowly added and many of them remain today. The more recent rides have been the most expensive and the most popular, the new rides include the Nemesis in 1994 costing £10m and the Oblivion in 1998 costing £12m, these are 2 of the best rides in Britain and are a reminder of what a little investment into a park can do to it's reputation overnight. The park is attracting up to 2.5m visitors per year and is holding special events throughout the year, like the Halloween Spooktacular and the Fireworks Display that are held on most weekends in October, you must try the Halloween weekend which is a brilliant day and you can ride the scariest rides in the dark until 7pm.
