Hall of Fame:
Network/syndicated shows that provide a fair and equal depiction of alternative lifestyles

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer
Since its inception, network television (namely ABC, CBS, and NBC) has more or less tried to pretend that alternative lifestlyes don't exist.  Recently (as in, the last decade), the proverbial closet has been opened and some gay/lesbian characters have made it onto major primetime network shows. But these characters are either overly stereotyped or asexual.  And their romantic relationships are kept off-screen, with the only on-screen indications of any such activity being flirting, non-sexual touching, or the occasional kiss.  Kisses which, more often than not, are over-advertised and played up for a ratings boost, particularly during sweeps.  In the meantime, the heterosexual characters on the same shows are allowed to go as far as getting in bed together on-screen with little or no repercussions.  It's as if gays and lesbians aren't even people on network tv--just plot devices.  Even on otherwise progressive shows like Will & Grace

Such unequal treatment needs to end.  People are people, no matter what their lifestyle, and the networks need to realize that and start giving everyone the same respect and dignity.  So please, take some time to explore my site and, if you find that you agree with my assessment, then I highly encourage you to write these networks and let them know how you feel.  Every voice counts, and together, we can make a difference.

Xena:  The Warrior Prnicess
Will & Grace
Since this show could easily fall on both sides of the coin, I've given Will & Grace a category all it's own.
