Jane Eyre VS Pearl

One day, my friend asked me what book do I choose to compare. I told her that I will compare 'The Pearl' and 'Jane Eyre'. She wondered that two books have any relevance. At the first time, It seems that two books have no relevance but when I started to read the book, I found out that two books, especially, two main characters have many similarities to compare. The book named Jane Eyre was about Jane Eyre's life that could not be accepted by the people in that period. In the book named The Pearl, the story happened after Kino, the poor diver, discovered the valuable pearl. Two main characters which appeared in two books have one difference in their ending but they have two commonness of life and main topic.

Both Jane Eyre and Kino were born in unbearable condition. Jane Eyre's parents were dead before she could remember her parents. She was grown up by her uncle with three cousins. However, after her uncle died, Jane was beaten by her cousin John and her aunt neglected Jane. Because Jane resisted so hard on her unfairness, she sent to Lowood Charity school. She should bear all difficulties in school because school's establisher tried to reduce its spend even though money which were donated by town people was sufficient. Her best friend, Helen, died and almost all of her surrounding characters weren't helpful or leave her. In addition, Jane's lover already married with mad woman so she should give up her wedding at the first time. Jane experienced various difficulties which seem impossible to occur simultaneously in one's life. However, she is not the only one whose life is so unlucky. Kino was very poor and even his baby was poisoned by scorpion. The doctor ignored Kino's baby because he had no money to pay. Furthermore, although, Kino got the chance to be rich, he could not apply the chance and even he lost his lovely son by the pearl. Both Jane's and Kino's life were tough..

Despite similar severe destiny, Jane's and Kino's endings are unlike. Jane endured misery and never succumbed to her fate. Jane had ability to develop better condition by overcoming obstacles. For example, Jane stood against inequality and demanded Mrs Reed to teach Jane. Although there were harsh conditions in the school, Jane successfully sent to school and educate well. Education from school was proper choice because it brought Jane's job and protected Jane from ignorance. In addition, even though Rochester became cripple after Jane leave his house, she married with him and bore son. By marriage, Jane became happy with her husband, doesn't defraud of her feeling of love through Rochester, and accepts her emotion courageously. On the other hand, Kino returned to ordinary life after he lost valuable one. His life wasn't so much harsh from the start but after he discovered the pearl. Finding out the pearl caused crisis rather than happiness. The pearl made Kino to murder(whether it was just accident or not) and caused people to fight for the pearl. When Kino made out that the pearl was evil, it was too late to go back. His son, most worthful to Kino, already died. To sum up, Kino conquered barriers by simply remove a cause but this was done after he missed his son. Jane, however, overcame all difficulties directly and she changed adversity to good fortune.

Although Jane and Kino disagreed with their endings, they shared the same main idea that both two characters opposed with society. In the period that Jane Eyre had published, the regulations were strict for women. However, Jane got married with man with unfitted status. She argued for her rights and faced against injustice confidently. Jane never flattered people by telling lies. She always desired for new adventure and isn't afraid of it and her characteristic doesn't adjust with the aspect of society. In the situation of 'The Pearl', the world in the story disregarded Kino. People, especially rich town people, don't evaluated the worth of Kino's pearl and tried to cheat Kino. The poor men were easily to be deceived because they weren't educated. That was the reason why poverty was succeed to heir. Kino tried not to inherit his poverty to his son. Even though he became greedy after he got the pearl, he never abandoned his family and tried to educate his son. Thus, I think both Jane and Kino are innovative rather than greedy.

In conclusion, at the first time, It seemed Jane Eyre and Kino had no connection. However, two stories had various things to compare. Jane and Kino had difference in way to treat their situation but they had similarities in their given environment and what the author wanted to express. Both two characters gave people beneficial lessons which people should recognize. Therefore, people should read two books.
