Journal of Lily's First Year
December, January, February
December 3rd, 2003 - Lily has outgrown most of her 0-3 month clothes, and is now wearing some of her 3-6 month clothes.
December 5th, 2003 - Yesterday, Lily shook a rattle for the first time (I handed it to her, she didn't pick it up out of her crib). Today while she was holding the rattle, she brought it to her mouth with her right hand, and she was exploring the shape of it with her other hand. Also she dropped it from her right hand onto her chest, and picked it up with her left hand.
December 7th, 2003 - At around 3:40am this morning, while Lily was saying "goo" and other baby sounds, she made a sound that was like "yeah". Tonight Lily got her first haircut. Ben cut her hair.
December 9th, 2003 - Today's a big milestone. Lily flipped over from her back onto her stomach for the first time this morning. After a short second she quickly flipped back onto her back.
December 17th, 2003 - Here are some of the nicknames that Ben and I call Lily: Small Stuff, Rat, Frog, Mouse, Chele, Teddy Bear, Small, Sweetums, Lily-pie, Chhoto Thing, and Burrito
December 19th, 2003 - Today was Lily's doctor appointment. She now weighs 12 lbs 14 oz, with a height of 23.75 inches. She also got 2 more shots.
December 20th, 2003 - Lily turned 3 months old today. Also, she slept through the night for the first time last night. She slept from midnight until I woke her up at 6am to feed her (since it had been such a long time since she had eaten).
December 25th, 2003 - Today was Lily's first Christmas. Her Christmas present to me was that she slept through the night again. This time she slept until 7am!
December 27th, 2003 - Today Lily reached for a toy and grabbed it out of my hand. I didn't have to touch her hand with it for her to take it. She reached for it and grabbed it from my hand several times, when I held it in front of her. When I told Ben about it, he said he's seen her do that before.
January 20th, 2004 - Lily turned 4 months old today
January 25th, 2004 - I'll give a description of the way Lily is now. She sleeps through the night every night now. She's interested in toys, and loves to hold them and move them around in her hands. She also likes to grab her feet, her clothing, and whatever else is in her reach, especially my hair! She's still only eating formula, and hasn't started other foods yet.
January 29th, 2004 - Doctor's appointment. Lily now weighs 14 lbs 12 oz. She got 2 more shots.
January 31st, 2004 - Here's a big milestone. Lily ate her first food today- one spoonful of rice cereal.
February 12th, 2004 - Lily has been able to scoot backwards somewhat when she's on her stomach for the past few days. She can tuck her legs under her while on her stomach. Also she can now lift her head and chest up using her arms. I'd bet she'll be crawling within a couple of weeks.
February 16th, 2004 - Lily can move forward while on her stomach now. She inches along like a caterpiller. It's not a crawl yet, but almost there. Also, Ben told me he saw Lily lift herself up by holding the bumper on the side of the crib, so she could look over the edge of the crib. She now seems to understand that shaking a rattle will produce the rattle sound. Earlier on, she never seemed to shake rattles on purpose, but just moved her arms randomly while holding toys. Now she'll repeatedly hit a rattle toy against the bed over and over, to produce the rattle sound every time.
February 20th, 2004 - Lily turned 5 months old today.
February 23rd, 2004 - For the first time, Lily took the bottle out of my hands and put it in her mouth to feed herself. It happened several times today. Also, for the past week or so, Lily has discovered how to bounce herself up and down while in a crawl-like pose. She seems to have fun doing that.
