June 17th, 2003- I had an appointment with Dr. Christie. He said my glucose test came back abnormal, so I'll have to have a more accurate test on Friday to see if I have diabetes. I had blood drawn to check my liver functions. |
June 19th, 2003- I had an ultrasound today, to check for gallstones. Also I got to see Lily again, but the doctor mainly looked at her heart beating, just for a minute. I didn't get a photo. June 20th, 2003- I had my 3-hour glucose test today, to test me for diabetes. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything for almost 16 hours (except the nasty glucose medicine). As if that wasn't bad enough, they drew blood from me 5 different times during the 3 hours. OUCH! June 24th, 2003- I got the results back from my lab tests. Everything turned out good. I don't have diabetes or gallstones. My liver functions test was normal too. July 9th, 2003- I had my first Braxton-Hicks contraction. It wasn't painful. It just felt like my uterus clenched tight for a few seconds. July 17th, 2003- I had my breast-feeding class today. I learned how to hold a baby while breastfeeding, and how to know when a baby is hungry. July 19th, 2003- Ben and I went to the first half of our 2-day Lamaze class today. On the way there, we were in a car accident (which was the other driver's fault). I continue to have Braxton-Hicks contractions, at least once a day. |
July 20th, 2003- Today was the second half of the Lamaze class. Ben got to see Lily move for the first time, while we were practicing breathing exercises. |
July 21st, 2003- Today I packed a bag with stuff I'll take to the hospital when I go into labor- my camera, a comfortable robe, relaxing music, snacks for Ben, etc... |
August 20th, 2003- Today I had an ultrasound, because my doctor couldn't find where Lily's head was at. The ultrasound showed that she's dropped low into my pelvis, in preparation for my upcoming labor. I can feel the extra pressure on my pelvic bones and my bladder. You can see how my belly dropped lower by comparing the July 21st and August 31st photos. |
August 2nd, 2003- My baby shower was today at my Dad's house. |
August 28th, 2003- The doctor just told me my cervix is 1 centimeter dialated. |

September 2nd, 2003- For over a month I've had a lot of trouble sleeping because of hip and pelvic pain, bladder pressure, acid reflux, and Braxton-Hicks contractions. I can't wait unit Lily is born, and I can lay down painlessly again. It's strange, but I don't feel any pain while sitting. Just laying down hurts a lot. I feel I'm ready and prepared for Lily's birth, and I can't wait to see her. I hope I'll go into labor this week. It's only 8 days until her due date now. |
September 5th, 2003- I had a doctors appointment this morning, and he told me my cervix is closed or only barely opening. He also said he'll be going on vacation right after my due date, and he said I can possibly start my labor by walking. I walked at the mall for an hour and a half, and I was getting some strong back pressure and some contractions, but when I rested, it stopped. |
September 7th, 2003- I tried the doctor's other suggestion of taking castor oil to start my labor, but it didn't work. |
September 9th, 2003- I found out the back-up doctors would still be covered by my insurance, so I'm no longer trying to get my labor started by walking. I'll just let my labor start whenever it's ready to. Hopefully, that will happen before the 17th, so I won't need to be induced. |
September 10th, 2003- My due date. Still no labor yet... |

September 11th, 2003- I had a doctor's appointment with Dr. Kroll today, since Dr. Christie has left for his vacation. Dr. Kroll is one of the 3 possible doctors that can deliver Lily. She said my cervix is still closed. That's disappointing news to me. That means, all of the walking I've done over the past week to try to get labor started hasn't done anything. She told me to go to the hospital tomorrow morning so that they can check to see if Lily is ok, and check to see if I have a good amount of amniotic fluid. If anything is wrong, I'll be induced. Otherwise, I'll wait and let labor happen naturally. |
September 12th, 2003- I went to the fetal diagnostics place in the hospital this morning for my first appointment there. I got to see a print out of Lily's heartrate and my Braxton-Hicks contractions. They checked my amniotic fluid level with an ultrasound. Everything's normal. |
September 13th, 2003- I've been having alot of Braxton-Hicks contractions since last night. They aren't happening at regular intervals, and they aren't painful. They feel like period cramps that last about 20 seconds each. But I'm getting as many as 10 every hour. So it looks like labor may be right around the corner. At least I hope so. |
September 15th, 2003- I went to fetal diagnostics again for another appointment early this morning. Everything looks normal. I'm having Braxton-Hicks contractions less often than I was 2 days ago, but when I do get one it can occasionally be strong and a little bit painful. |
September 16th, 2003- Around 8:20pm I had a pink bloody show. A "bloody show" is often caused by the cervix opening up. It often means that labor will happen soon. I'm over a week past my due date, so I certainly hope this is a sign my labor will start. |
September 17th, 2003- I lost my mucous plug. What the pink bloody show last night actually meant, was that my mucous plug was on it's way out of my cervix. Still no labor yet. |
September 18th, 2003- Today at my appointment, Dr. Kroll said my cervix is 60% effaced but STILL CLOSED!!! She tried to stretch it open with her hand, but I don't think it worked at all. By the way, that's not quite as painful as it sounds. She scheduled me to have my labor induced on September 22nd (Monday night) at 10pm (She wouldn't let me pick the day or time). |
September 19th, 2003- Early this morning I had alot of strong contractions but, of course, it never turned into labor. I also had another "bloody show" around 9am this morning, but it's probably just the last of my mucous plug, or maybe caused from the doctor trying to open my cervix yesterday afternoon. |
September 20th, 2003- Lily was born! Click here to read the story of her birth. |
