Note the following approcah will not replace any system files.

Can you boot to your Win2000 CD? If so then when it finally boots At the "Welcome to Setup" screen, press F10, or press R to repair, and then C to start the Recovery Console this will allow you to use the command line. From here do something like the following. Or if the file system is FAT32 you can use a Win98 bootdisk to do this. www.bootdisk.com
COPY /Y C:\WINNT\repair\RegBack\TheParticularHive C:\WINNT\system32\config\
This will replace the registry hive to the last time that hive was bacped up. Hopefully you didn't backup the registry at the time the problems started to happen.
Following is a list of the files that are the registry hives. I would suggest starting with the SYSTEM hive and then reboot and if the problem still persists do the SOFTWARE hive next. Note these files don't have a file extension on them DEFAULT
SAM
SECURITY
SOFTWARE
SYSTEM
For the SYSTEM hive you could try the following before doing the copy method.
ren c:\windows\system32\config\SYSTEM SYSTEM.bak
ren c:\windows\system32\config\SYSTEM.alt SYSTEM
I would suggest to first BACKUP these hives from the C:\WINNT\system32\config\ to folder of your making or choice just don't back them up to the C:\WINNT\repair\RegBack\ folder.
You will probably need to reapply any services patches that you have previously installed.
or you can use the following free uitlity I developed that will backup the registry for you.
Registry Backup

1. Start the Registry Editor
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}
3. right-click the IsInstalled value, and then click Modify
4. Change the value data, from 1 to 0
5. Close the registry editor
6. Download and install Internet Explorer 6.

What you need to do first is create a batch file. This is simply a series of steps that you want Windows to do. Here's how to create a Printdir.bat file:

1. Go to Start and Run. In the Open box, type notepad, and click OK.
2. Copy the following text and paste it into Notepad:
@echo off
dir %1 /-p /o:gn > "%temp%\Listing"
start /w notepad /p "%temp%\Listing"
del "%temp%\Listing" exit
3. On the File menu, click Exit, and then click Yes to save the changes. 4. In the Save As dialog box, type the following:
%windir%\Printdir.bat
Afterwards, click Save. Make sure that you save it in the Windows folder.

Now, you need to add the ability to print a folder's contents to the right-click menu.
1. Go to Start, and open the Control Panel (or, in Windows 98 and ME, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel), and then click Folder Options.
2. On the File Types tab, click File Folder.
3. Click Advanced, and then New. In the Action box, type Print Directory Listing.
4. In the Application used to perform action box, type printdir.bat, and click OK.
Click OK, OK, and then Close.

But there is an easier way. There are free programs that let you print a folder's contents. Here are a few:
MaxLister
PrintFolder
DirectoryPrint

Reg Edit
1. Back up the registry first:
Start > Programs > Accessories > Backup > click on the "Emergency Repair Disk" button.
2. click on the portion labeled "Also backup registry........." put a floopy disk in and then hit the Ok button.
3. Click Start, then click Run. In the Run box have the customer type regedit, without the quotes. Click OK. Select My Computer, to insure that the next step starts from the top of the registry.
4. Click File, then Backup Registry. Have the customer save the file to their desktop. If an error occurs at this point, escalate.
5. Press F3, and then clear the Values and Data checkboxes, but leave Keys selected.
6. Type MSN6, without the quotes, in the Find what text box. Click Find Next.
7. When Regedit finds the first entry, either MSN6 or MSN6.exe, press the DELETE key, click Yes to confirm. Press F3 to continue searching. Continue to delete registry keys until Regedit can no longer find any new entries.
8. Close Regedit and restart the computer.
Note If the customer is a Windows XP user, complete these steps after the above steps have been completed:
a. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
b. Open User Accounts, and click the Advanced tab.
c. Click Manage Passwords, which opens the Stored User Names and Password window.
d. Click each entry (if any), one at a time, to highlight it, and then click Remove.

More information on using the regedit tool can be found here.

Deleting Core Files
The simple way to delete all msn core files is to do a search on their computer for any msn files… and delete them. That takes care of that little issue, now doesn't it. Then you can install whichever version of MSN you want.

If you are interested in employment with one of these companies, investigate whether that company is currently hiring. Try to identify a contact person in a specific division that interests you. This method may yield better results than just contacting the human resources department.
