Kalams Argument
Premise 1: Everything that begins to exist has a cause outside of itself.
Premise 2: The universe began to exist.
Conclusion: The universe has a cause outside of itself; God.
Kalams Argument states that the universe began to exist because nothing just starts up, it has a beginning. The first premise reassures the fact that everything that begins doesnt just happen or come into existence but it has a creator or beginner. The second premise says that whether it was 13 billion years ago or 45 billion years ago, the universe did at one point in time begin to exist. Therefore the conclusion states that some initiator or creator was necessary for the universe to come into initial existence and this initiator is God. For instance there are cookies in the kitchen and according to this theory, the cookies had a cause outside of themselves which caused their existence. The conclusion would be that your mom made the cookies, therefore putting them into existence in the kitchen.
Another theory that coincides with Kalams argument is the Big Bang Theory. The Big Bang Theory states that our universe sprang into existence as singularity around 13.7 billion years ago. If this theory is correct, Kalams argument would come into play saying that God was the initiator of the Big Bang Theory which created the universe.
My Views on Kalams Argument
I believe that this is a very strong argument for the existence of God. I think that it is very logical and when a lot of thought is put into it, I think it makes a lot of sense. When I first heard of the argument, I thought that someone could easily argue that the universe is infinite and that it never had any beginning. Although, when more thought and consideration is put in, it as apparent that everything has a beginning and science can put a date of around 13.7 billion years on the universes beginning. I find all aspects of this believable because if someone strongly supports the Big Bang Theory or a different theory, this argument merges with the others, stating that God was the main initiator that began the process that created the universe. Even though all of the events of creation in the Bible may not have played out the way that the Bible says, I believe that God did create the universe or at least was the initiator.
