U96

U-96 submarine was VIIC Class submarine laid down on 16 September, 1939 in Germaniawerft, Kiel. The U-Boat was commissioned on 14 September, 1940 by Kapitanleutnant Heinrich Lehmann -Willenbrock. He was one of the greatests submarine commanders in the Kriegsmrine.

U-96 ranks 9th in TOP 20 of the most succesful U-Boats with 29 ships (for a total 199.182 tons) sunk and 3 (for a total 32.773 tons) ships damaged. During its career U-96 took part in 11 patrols. U-96 was destroyed by the US.AF bombs and sunk on 30th March, 1945 in Wilhelmshaven.
