Book of Assassins

1: Along the coast of the new land,
Outside the hand of the Altmer,
The Chimer rested for their long journey
2: Outside the thick forests for
Three days after the passing of the Orsimer.
3: Among them was the Chimer warrior Aldis,
    Who was favored by Mephala,
4: And as a priest to her lived by her order.
5: On the first day of rest Aldis
Came to the bitter bush by the edge
Of the forest, where a new berry grew,
6: And had a taste Aldis never knew.

7: So did he make rich drinks for
    All the weary pilgrims.
8: In the night all gathered about Aldis
Who sang as the morning bird and
9: Drank as though night would never end,
And truly Mephala watched in amusement.
10: Along the coast watched a new tribe,
Who lived among trees with creatures
    The pilgrims never knew before.
11: The tree tribe had seen when
Aldis had taken berries of their bush,
vand sought to capture Aldis for this.
12: Before the dawn came the warriors
Of the tribe, and took Aldis in silence.

13: The morning sun rose on the pilgrim, who
Rose in strange room, high above the forest dirt.
14: On him he wore strange robes of exotic colors.
15: To his calls came the warriors again,
16: And led him to the leader of the tribe, King Relsear
Ancestor to the founder of Camoran.
17:And to Aldis he spoke
You have eaten of the berries of our tribe,
18: And have come to our good water.
19: Truly you must join our tribe
Or be known now as the enemy.
20: So Aldis knew to lie, and join the tribe
Of Relsear, but knew their path was not to here.

21: And Aldis drank freely and spoke with the wisemen
Of the new tribe. And the work was
22: Done not by the tribe, but by the ape men
    Who were theirs to command.
23: The hands were soft with no work, and truly
Aldis believed this of Mephala's order.
24: So did he go back to the pilgrims
To tell them of this ally tribe,
25: And they too wore the fine robes
Of the tree folk of Relsear.
26: Upon hearing of the Chimer punishment
King Relsear proclaimed his land open
As home for Veloth and the pilgrims.
27: And truly Veloth was unsure of his path,
For the way of Relsear was of comfort.

28: Upon the second night as the pilgrims
Enjoyed the fruits of the new tribe,
29: Veloth sat upon a high tree of the forest,
Where no wind blew, and his thoughts were clear.
30: Upon this tower I stand tonight,
31: Within is where I must reside,
32: This world created cold and so we work
33: To reform the shape not to return
34: But to see and moreso enter.
35: And now Mephala came to him knowing
His mind to be clouded of his path.
36: Veloth, child of many stones before,
37: Favored of the Triangle, look on
The sky and know the Chimer
Are not to look upon this canopy roof for all time.

38: This land is not pure,
Like the blood of this tribe.

39: Their hands show no work, they
Do live on fruit and song alone.

40: And Veloth knew they must leave
    And Mephala knowing that Veloth
Did not fully understand his role spoke
41: You can not kill the plant
    If the root remains.

42: Use our art in the night,
Murder this king and clear his sword.

43: So the feast of tall trees was
Served to the king and all of this land,
44: And the cups spilt of the berries,
And the beds of the councilors and king
Filled with the perfume of the Chimer.
45: In the shadows and curtains laid the swords
Of Mephala, and sharp their edge as their will.
46: And the forms of the trees bent in curled
For the anticipation of the blade was great.

47: And the head of the Irthisk was severed,
    Where its wicked tongue remained.

48: And the four hands were removed
    With blunt weapons of earth.

49: And the tail was buried in its place
To give root to the daedra on the mortal plane.

50: And with the tail growth of the wicked forest
The chimer grew like these trees out of
A canopy roof, and saw the stars of promise.
