| Setting: Cyber Storm takes place in the year of 2015 when the technology expanded a lot from what it is now. It is in a small town, which has so far remained nameless, mostly in the main character, Darcy's room. This is where everything happened. When Darcy was left alone in the room, she got stuck in a virtual reality machine that they had in a cabinet where the virtual reality machine was, but she wasn't there (pg. 40). The actual reason was that she didn't want her dog to be taken away and the easiest way out was into the virtual reality machine. The only problem was into the virtual reality machine. The only problem about that was that she was stuck inside the machine. "Mr. Kane checked the cabinet for any hidden corners or secret passage ways in, but there was nothing at all that could get darcy out from there." (pg. 62). Then there is the school. jax is the bully figure around there. He had this bracer that one of Darcy's friend's knocked over and blamed it on her. Now Jax thinks that it was Darcy that messed up0 the racer. He has practically made it his mission to hurt her in some way. When Darcy's Friend told her that he did it and blamed it on her, she refused to talk to him. That is also why she went into the virtual reality machine. Her teacher, Mrs. Galloway, is a very hard teacher that can drive a student to insanity. The classroom is one of the most hated places for her. So it is a given that they live in the future because of all the 3D things they have and the fact that they could practically enter a videogame. |
| Main Character: Darcy Kane is the main character in the book. She is 11 years old. She doesn't have the greatest personality or the best judgment on situations. When Darcy heard that her dog was going to be taken away, she went to her neighbor's house to the virtual reality machine and went in because she thought it was the only way to keep her dog. "Darcy slammed the VROOM door shut, but not in time. Chip had seen the crow. He barked - three short, high, yips." (pg. 40). Darcy has a friend named Erik. He gives her better judgment sometimes on things when she thinks something is better when it isn't. He is one of the main characters, too. He is involved with Darcy's life and tries to protect her from things like Jax at school. Sometimes he picks the worst decisions like Darcy. He lied to Jax about his bracer as an example (pg. 18). |
| Conflict: Man vs. Society. The first conflict in this book is when the people come to take Darcy's dog, Chip. She gets freaked out immediately and runs to her neighbor's house to get into the virutal reality machine and stepped in. When she went in, she got stuck in the machine and is claimed missing by her family and friends. She is freaked out now because she found out herself that she couldn't get out of the VR machine. "Like a trapped bird, Darcy glanced from one corner of the room to the other, from the fireplace to the dining area and back again. Her palms grew sweaty and her hands began to tremble" (pg. 40). Activating Circumstance: The activating circumstance is when the people first come to tell Darcy's family that they are going to take Chip away. That is why she wanted to go to the virtual reality machine in the first place. "Darcy felt her insides turn cold. So that's how it was - if things got critical, she couldn't count on her parents. She put the pillow over Chip's ears and whispered, 'Don't listen to them. They don't know anything about what's important. Trust me, Chip. No matter what I have to do, I'll never let you go!' " (pg.18). |
